“Handy location for us.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

After spending all day at the Grand Canyon the location of this hotel fitted our itinerary perfectly. It allowed us to watch the sunset at Desert View and be in our lodgings at a reasonable hour to enjoy dinner in their restaurant. We were travelling from the Grand Canyon to Monument Valley and this allowed us a comfortable hotel, that only required a relatively short drive the next day to reach our destination. The rooms were comfortable and it was a blessing to arrive to a nice warm room after being in the snow most of the day at the Grand Canyon.
The meals at the restaurant were, extremely cheap for what you got and after reading reviews about the Navajo Tacos we weren't disappointed, they were huge! The Fry bread with honey was also a hit! The gift shop was huge and was in some ways a bit like a museum as well (it is a pity that so many "Native" souvenirs were made in China). Coffee by the big open fire in the morning was a bonus as were the conversations with the friendly staff.
If you are planning to drive to Monument Valley from the Grand Canyon, I recommend this hotel as a convenient stop over, as it breaks the trip up nicely.

“Nice room and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

While the hotel is somewhat isolated, the location met our needs perfectly. We were happy with our room as it was bright, spacious and comfortable. Check-in was very quick. We enjoyed/ appreciated the opportunity to do some light shopping and have dinner at the on-site restaurant following a week-long backpacking trip in the South Rim. While the restaurant does not serve alcohol, the lemonade was a worthy substitute. We found the hotel grounds to be well-kept, and the staff very friendly. The location was perfect as we headed on north to Utah to continue our trip.

“No front desk for late check- ins & after hours”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Me & my husband stayed in Cameron Trading Post hotel during Christmas while visiting Grand Canyon. The Trading post is basically more famous for their gift store & restaurant but we were not very impressed with their hotel service. We arrived the day before Christmas & the front desk was closed after hours with a board saying contact security at the gas station. The gas station was also closed & there was no one to help us & we were wandering in the parking lot looking for help. Calling them also did not help. Finally we saw the security guy approaching on a bicycle & he checked us in but did not give us Internet access password. The next day also the restaurant and front desk was closed. Although the location is good if you are driving down from north Arizona, staying in Flagstaff or Williams would give you more lodging & eating options.

“Different place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Stayed there in April, 2011. we had planned to stay in one of the lodges in the Grand Canyon, but left it too late. Found this place when searching TA and liked the reviews. Check in was a bit slow, but I think that you have to get used to "Indian time". Things move slow around there. Rooms were nice, comfortable, beds were great, but was a bit annoying that there was no fridge.

Restaurant is very good, portions are huge, so sharing is fun. They have a number of traditional Navajo Hopi dishes and we tried them all. Something new and different for us.

The drive to the Grand Canyon village is about 80 Kms (50 miles), but the road is good and the views are spectacular, so it doesn't feel long. On the way we saw squirrels, deer, coyote, and even a bear!

Would love to go back to grand canyon, and would be happy to stay there again.

“Rude service. Inconvenient to Grand Canyon Park. Go elsewhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Room was ok, but linens and maid service was mediocre at best. Staff varied from complete apathy to annoyed to subtly hostile. Place revolves around large souvenir shop filled with lots of cheap junk. Dont be fooled by map that show GCNP 30 miles away, thats the park boundary. Its another 25 miles to the most eastward view of the canyon. You will then want to drive further west and have a very long drive back to this unwelcoming motel.
