“A Wonderful Experince”

We just returned from a great stay at the Astronomers Inn. I am attaching a couple of pictures, to show you that the rooms are actually nicer and bigger than show on the B&B's website! All the hosts/hostesses were welcoming, friendly and informative. Each room is decorated uniquely and has loads of neat decorating touches. The bed was heavenly, and there are so many common areas to make yourself comfortable. A media room with a big screen TV, a formal dining room where that they graciously allowed me to use as a scrapbooking area, a computer/library room with free internet access on their computer and wifi for your own, if you bring a laptop. The kitchen area they show on their website is strictly for guest use. They have another kitchen where they prepare breakfast and a lovely glass enclosed dining area with 3 tables, one for each guest room. . Yummy, yummy breakfasts! Fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. You can hire astronomers, or like we did, bring your own telescope and take advantage of several patios that are designed with amateur astronomers in mind. Chairs and tables, red lights lining all the paths so you can see, but not lose your night vision, and even electricity, so that my husband could plug in his laptop and telescope to do his imaging without having to use batteries.
We have returned refreshed, happy, relaxed and with lovely memories. We live about 40 miles away, and so plan to visit often!
Thanks to Sara and her staff for giving us a lovely stay.

  • Liked — How comfortable the staff made us feel so comfortable and welcome, it was like we were at a good friend's home.
  • Disliked — They don't accept pets. But then most bed and breakfasts do not.

Bed and Breakfast and private observatory. Ok, this is definitely one of the kitchiest places I have ever been. I mean every square inch of wall, floor, and surface has texture, color or kitch item...but that's ok. Don't stay here unless you are going to book a session with an astronomer! That's the real reason this place is so special. The roof rolls back and then it's you, lots of telescopes, and a very knowledgeable astronomer. The 3 to 4 hour astronomy lesson was terrific.

“A one of a kind experience!”

You do not have to be a space buff, or amateur astronomer to really enjoy this unusual bed and breakfast. It is well worth the trip from Tucson and should be on any nature buff's list. It is more than an extremely comfortable and well run B&B but an adventure in itself. In fact, I'm sure that this is the only B&B in the U.S, (If not the world) where you enjoy a comfortable spacious room, a guided tour, a 4 hour session with an astronomer through a 20" telecsope, access to common rooms and hot drinks for the sky watching....and enjoy time in the media room to look at fossils, and microscope slides of tuberculosis biopsies and other pathology goodies. All this will be explained in the 5 minute tour that includes information about Dr. Vega who built the telescope. There is something truly for everyone who is interested in the night sky, science, a beautiful sunset view, good food and archaeology. If you go, please make sure that you book a session (extra) with the astronomers. It is well worth it. Wear warm clothing because the desert is very cold at night, and the observatory telescope has to be the same temperature as the sky. Also, fill up in Tucson on food for the evening. Benson closes down pretty early. I wish we had arrived earlier or stayed an extra day just to relax. Benson also offers the Kartchner cave experience, and Tombstone is just a hop down the road.

  • Liked — the excellent mix of science, comfort, kitsch and great food
  • Disliked — benson's food choices

“the Astronomer's Inn Unique and delightful”

What an incredible find! This is one of the most fun places we've ever stayed in, my 10 yr old can't stop talking about it and I think it has sparked a real interest in astronomy in her. I don't think I've seen a more kid friendly place- and educational to boot! (adults will love it too)

The Inn is clean and the staff is wonderful, our breakfasts were well prepared and plentiful.

We booked an astronomer and she brought the skies to life for us, I'll never look at the stars the same way again. Places like the Astronomer's Inn are so rare, it is my sincere hope to go back again someday.

THANK YOU Sara and staff it was the perfect start to a perfect vacation.

Had some trouble contacting the B&B as it changed hands but we managed to book the Galaxy Room and star-gazing for the evening on 25 May 2007. It is a lovely setting and I can't praise enough the teacher who came in and was showing us wonderful sights in the sky on the 12 inch telescope until 11pm all for $95 for the two of us. Excellent value. The B&B is in a very pretty setting and we ate our breakfast with a jack rabbit, a family of quails and a red feathered blackbird (or was it crow) just outside the window so close you could almost touch them! It is a wonderland for children and adults alike. Go there!

  • Liked — Wonderfully appointed, fun themed bedroom
  • Disliked — Having to drive on sandy road to access.
