I travel to Wrangell, Alaska for business at least 6 times a year and I always stay at the Sourdough Lodge. And I always recommend people stay at the Sourdough Lodge when in Wrangell.
Bruce, the innkeeper, will go out of his way to make your stay a pleasant one.
The Lodge, actually a cleverly disguised grouping of modular homes, is not quite hotel, not quite bed and breakfast. I don’t like staying at B&Bs because staying at a stranger’s house can feel creepy. Hotels have no personality. Bruce’s Lodge is exactly in-between the two.
The free continental breakfast is basic: toast, fruit, butter and jam. But no protein. Hot, homemade style breakfast is available for purchase.
Amenities are sparse. You get clean towels, linens, toilet paper and soap (no shampoo). You do get free internet (wired or wireless) and can enjoy watching your favorite news or sports games in HD on one of the largest televisions I’ve ever seen.
