Arrived at this hotel after driving from Anchorage (a great drive by the way). No hotel staff were to be found, but a member of staff at the Mexican restaurant underneath the hotel, helped. She didn't really seem to know we were due to arrive and had no idea of the room rate.

The hotel room (room 2) was small and basically clean. We were disappointed that the sheets and pillowcases didn't appear to have been ironed. The bathroom was a little dated and the plug in the sink did'nt work. There only hanging space consisted of one wire hangar, not really adequate for a double room.

The owner told us that she was going away for a few days, but introduced us to the 'stand-in' manageress. We were told that breakfast could be taken in the kitchen and consisted of fruit juice, coffee, several boxes of breakfast cereal, fruit in the fridge and a large plastic package of store-bought pastries! This packet of pastries was breakfast for the second morning too.......

The 'stand-in' was most pleasant and did her best to make us at home, but it really wasn't a very welcoming B&B.

Ernesto's Taqueria Mexican Restaurant downstairs was OK, but nothing special.

Valdez is a great place and is crying out for a good quality B&B to open there
