“Try to be the first or last of the season! Love these guys!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

We were the first tour group of the 2011 season and the Westmark Tok had their arms wide open for us! The Westmak isn't much to write home about but it's clean and comfy for an overnight stay. The town was still waking up when we arrive so the highlights were the grocery store and the burnt paw next door with adorable puppies.
The westmark guys had shirts printed with "first tourists for 2011" - nice touch and a bit of fun. Restaurant was simple with yummy food.

“Storers the explorers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Our stay at this lovely "outback Alaskan "hotel at the crossroads of Alaska and Glenn highways was the highlight of our last trip . While we were staying there we were moved to tears by a nightly rememberance and flag lowering service that was held at the hotel by the manager ,his staff and his customers. My husband who is an Aussie Vietnam veteran who served with the US military was made to feel very special as he stood amoungst a good dozen other US Vets for the ceremony .
The management and wonderfull staff at this hotel exceeded all our expectations of a country hotel. They were warm, friendly and very efficient.
Our room was a lovely and was well maintained and serviced. It had a huge bathroom that was "Disability friendly ".The main room contained 2 double beds and lots of space for suitcases. The room furnishings were nice and comfy.......it looked almost like home.
We ate at the front bar the night of our stay and had a wonderfull pub style meal and a great chat with the bar staff about the local area and their experiences. The hotel also had a large well stocked gift shop and the prices were very reasonable.

“Staff tries to overcome at very modest hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Our one night here was the worst out of 16 days on a Holland-America (HAL) cruise/land tour. (Westmark is owned by HAL.) This is a very modest 2 story hotel with no elevators in a one horse town. The staff is friendly and tries hard at the restaurant and front desk, but there were a few misses too. Due to no elevators we had requested a first floor room (which was confirmed by the hotel to our tour director) but were assigned a second floor one. The manager Dave could also demonstrate better customer service.

Our biggest complaint was a sink that wouldn't drain and a toilet that wouldn't flush. You would think management's quality control would include housekeeping checking these things when they cleaned and prepared a room for the next customer. After a long travel day to this middle-of-nowhere location, and another early one coming up the next day, we did not discover these problems until 8:30pm. A well-intentioned maintenance man tried too but couldn't fix either problem. We had to be moved to another room at 9:30pm, not good when your tour checks you in late and you have to be on the bus the next day at 7:30am. I was particularly annoyed the manager did not see me in person as I requested over these shortcomings, never heard from him even after we left despite close coordination with the HAL tour director.

Beware!

“Good stay in Tok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

Stayed here for one night on the way to Valdez (during clown week which was a bit of a laugh as all the staff were in costume) and one night on our way back to Dawson. The wireless was only available in the lobby which was a bit annoying as the rooms are located in separate annexes so it is a bit of a walk which I didn't really like doing by myself at night. The restaurant was okay, food was pretty good but there are not many choices in Tok and we didn't know about Fast Eddy's until we stopped for breakfast on our way out of town (the restaurant at the Westmark would not let us order breakfast there at 8am because a tour bus was about to arrive at 9am which was a little strange). The ice machine was handy as there were no fridges in the room, and we used the ice machine to fill up our cooler for travelling the next day. The walls were a bit thin and our neighbours were heavy footed. Good clean rooms but the carpet was a bit stained but I don't walk around on hotel carpet without slippers on. The nightlight in the bathroom area was handy at night. The shower had great water pressure and was nice and hot.

“Great people / staff / food and rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

In the middle of no-where is this fabulous place that takes great care of its visitors. We were there during clown week; decorations and costumes added fun to the happy atmosphere. Food was wonderful, all meals. Rooms were lovely and very comfortable. Manager and staffer were so helpful and always pleasant. We really liked the 8 o'clock flag ceremoney. Next door Burnt Paw facility had sled dog puppies, so cute. If you are planning an Alaska vacation or visit, make it a point to include the Tok Westmark Hotel on your journey itinerary!

Room Tip: We prefer first floor rooms and there are many at this location, all within easy walking distance of...
