“Quiet, clean, and acceptable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2009

We've stayed at the Snowshoe Motel twice now, and both times have found it to be an acceptable, average roadside motel. With the kinds of prices that one can find in Alaska and the Yukon for lodging, the price we've paid (around $90) is actually a pretty good bargain. (Believe me, you can find a LOT worse for $90 in this part of the world.) Two queen beds, essentially in separate sleeping quarters, connected by the bathroom.

All was clean. Not the most comfortable bed in the world, but fine for one night's sleep. Nice hot shower. Their towels were a little scratchy and old...could stand to be replaced, but no big deal. Complimentary toiletries, and coffee.

All in all, we've found it to be a good place to crash for a night after a long day's driving and we'll probably end up staying at the Snowshoe again some year.

“Roadside Simple Motel- nice staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2009

Easy to walk in and ask for a room without a reservation. Very nice staff. Suggest taking a room towards the back which keeps you a bit further from the road.
Expect nothing but low key basic room- older beds, 2 pillows, old curtains past their prime, a fridge and microwave that works (for thoose who have a cooler or need to heat some food) and low connecting but free internet.
We felt this place was clean.
The motel is close to the visitor information building and a restaurant.

“oh cmon, it wasnt that bad!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2008

we stayed here because it was the best deal we could find. we paid $96 for the night and we got 2 queen beds, though we ended up using ones. all of the rooms are like suites in a way, but that's alright as long as we weren't sharing with strangers!

the lady was very nice to us and we got checked in quickly.

the room was your average room. i loved that it had a fridge as well as a microwave.

she provided fans as it was still rather warm outside, and rarely anywhere in alaska you'll find AC (i'm originally from and i know this!)

i didn't snag a picture of the bathroom, but it WAS clean. i remember the towels being lightly stained, but it wasn't a gross deal. i was very comfortable in this room and WOULD stay again.

i find over picky people should just get an RV and stay in that rather than stay in Tok. people are so hypocritcial on this site, we know their house isn't godly clean lol. this hotel is NOT bad at all.

  • Liked — the refridgerator and microwave :)
  • Disliked — we paid $96 and for what we paid it was worth maybe $75/night.

“Convenient but average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2008

We had originally intended to stay somewhere else, but when we tried to reserve that place, over 4 months in advance, it was already booked. If you want your choice of accommodations in Tok, book early! The other place recommended the Snowshoe Motel, so we followed their advice.

The Snowshoe Motel has a great location, right on the Alaska Highway just east of the Tok Cut-Off (Highway 1). It's clearly not new but has been updated somewhat. The rooms are fairly large, and are arranged with 2 queen beds in separate rooms with a bathroom in between. The beds in our room (19) were comfortable, and the furnishings were ok, but starting to look a little ragged (see photo). Each bedroom had an oscillating fan, which was ok, but Tok can get warm in the summertime and air conditioning would have been nice for those of us who don't want to sleep with the windows open. Rooms on the ground floor open up to the parking lot, and those on the second floor open to an outside walkway.

Wireless internet is available, and rooms have a refrigerator-freezer and microwave, but there is no breakfast, pool, or other amenity. Many restaurants are nearby. Fast Eddy's is fast and has a good variety (e.g., not just deep-fried food and burgers). The RV Village a few blocks east has good laundry facilities.

For one night, it's an ok option for the price (under $100, which is rare in Alaska), as long as you can find things to do outside the motel.

  • Liked — Convenient location
  • Disliked — Desk clerk wasn't very friendly when we got there

“Stay only as last resort”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2008

This motel is the category of "cheap and expensive". The toilet in the first room was so dirty my wife refused to use it, so we moved to another room, where the cleanliness was only slightly better. This is where you stay when there is no where else to go.

  • Disliked — lack of cleanliness, surly staff
