“Lovely luxury mini break here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed here for a weekend away, we had bad weather so it was so nice having such a cosy, hospitable place to stay. Owner was very welcoming and friendly. Gorgeous old building. We stayed in Red Loft Room which had an amazing bathroom and comfy bed and all comfortable mod-cons. Had a meal in the restaurant cellar bar on first night. Was fine dining experience in comfort of your 'own home.' Very tasty and artfully presented - this is a fine dining restaurant though so you get that (hence someone grumbling here about small portions). It was an unusual mix of top end luxury and comfy B&B. Breakfast was great. I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Red Loft Room very nice - huge bathroom.

First time of visiting - definitely not the last !
Recommended by a good friend we visited on a cold January evening and entered a warm and cosy Llys Meddyg to be greeted by friendly, smiley staff.
Downstairs to a cellar bar full of character and again cosy atmosphere for a crisp g&t. Having perused the menu and ordered we were shown to our table in the beautifully decorated upstairs dining room. Given the choice we would have preferred to eat in the cellar bar area but that's simply because we prefer the more informal.
All our choices from start to finish were absolutely top notch in taste & presentation and well complemented by a couple of bottles from a short but interesting wine list.
I commend this outlet to the house !!

“Fab cellar bar! Rest is nice too...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Escaped for a couple of days here way back in October.
Stayed in the large garden room (May not be EXACTLY called that but similar!) which was very nice. Nice touches with Melyn Tre Gwynt bed throws.

The hotel is lovely, if a little tired in parts...nothing the odd bit of maintenance and a lick of Dulux wouldn't resolve though.

Food was really good even though the head chef was on holiday, or so we were told. Amazing trick with a parsley leaf inside a potato...did nothing for the flavour but very clever and kept me entertained! Breakfast was good and hearty.

However, the highlight, as I may have mentioned was the cellar bar! Roaring fire, dog friendly, great atmosphere. Ist choice dining venue - much nicer than the formal, somewhat imposing restaurant.

Well worth a visit. They even welcomed my flat coated retriever puppy in the rooms and bar- a real plus.

One slight negative: Being the owner of this fine place and living in such a wonderful setting can't be THAT bad, so why not crack a little smile and adopt some of the weclcoming stance that your staff are so good at?

firstly wish i'd read the reviews on here before going, seems to be quite a debate as to whether or not Llys Meddyg is value for money and if food portion sizes are large not just too suit the price tag which isn't ridiculous even in these worrying economic times, but also too satisfy your hunger. I don't go out to eat too be stuffed and have to be rolled home but I do expect to feel satisfied and contented at the end of any meal, we did however stop off for a burger in Fishguard on the way home! there is however alot to like about llys meddyg the food its self is fine and well prepared but is a maybe guilty of taking its self a little too seriously, "forest floor" take note....it is clear from talking to waitress that they have quite clearly got lofty ambitions but for me this isn't one of the best in its category and not even the best in Newport. the dining area is in dire need of repair as is most of the entrance and reception areas which look old tired and in need of a good scrub, toilets were untidy also.
