Stayed here for 5 nights as part of a low-season "pay for 3 nights, get 2 free". This was the only way I was willing to afford an Over Water Bungalow. It worked out to an avg of about 350 USD/night (tax incl) for each of the 5 nights. All other OWBs in Bora Bora seemed to be over 500 USD/night.
First the negatives:
(1) We had specifically reserved OWB #107 (did some research reading other reviews and decided this would be our preferred unit as it was over deep water and had a fairly private balcony. Luckily I printed and brought the email from Olivier (front office mgr) confirming he booked #107 for us. When we arrived at the hotel, we were given another OWB, over shallower water and with much less privacy while on the balcony. When I mentioned there must be some mistake as we reserved #107, they replied that unfortunately someone else was already in @107. I then spoke to Olivier himself and showed him his email to me, he then apologized and said that someone else at the hotel must have booked someone else in that room by mistake and that there was nothing he could do. He mentioned even when the current occupants left in 2 days, someone else is booked into that room - at which point I said - "YES! ME!... What is this?? I originally booked #107 4 months prior to arrival and you are telling me someone who isn't even here yet is going to get priority in that room when it becomes available in 2 days?? I don't think so!" I pressed the point, not willing to leave the front desk until I got the mgr to confirm that I was indeed moving in to #107 for the final 3 days of our stay. Which he had no choice but to do finally. Let's just say, this was not an impressive start to our stay.
(2) Parts of the ceiling in both our rooms appeared to be disintegrating, as there were small particles (like grains of sand) constantly falling on the floor, on the couch and even on our bed! The front desk, would send someone to clean them up when you mentioned it to them, but would not say what it was. Weird. I have a picture attached of this.
(3) A/C in the rooms is very strong, but like many places outside of North America, have a system in place where you need to put the room key card in a slot in order for the electricity (and hence AC) to work in the room. Given it is very hot and humid in Bora Bora, would take some time to cool the room. We eventually realized that you can simply put any card/paper in the slot to keep the A/C going while you were out of the room. At the rates we pay for these OWBs, we shouldn't have to sweat while waiting for the room to cool, just because we stepped out for an hour or two.
(4) If you don't like dogs, you will find it hard to walk anywhere from this hotel, as their are dozens and dozens of dogs that are not leashed on the properties in the area, and they roam up and down the main road all day and night. Some will bark aggressively at you. Definitely no leash laws here!
Now the positives:
(1) Super value for money compared to other OWBs in Bora Bora. Very nice and comfortable rooms and bathrooms, glass floors are amazing for viewing fish day and night.
(2) Breakfast which is included in the room rate was very good and in a beautiful setting right by the beach/lagoon. You can sit outside just beside and above the beautiful lagoon water, or under the covered area for shade. Lunch and dinner food was also quite good at this restaurant.
(3) Location is very good as it is walking distance to a number of restaurants and small convenience store/supermarket and less than 10 minute walk from the islands most spectacular sandy beach... Matira Beach (a number of restaurants for lunch right by the beach with incredible views of the blue waters)
(4) Swimming and snorkelling right off the OWBs is very good! They also provide all the snorkelling gear, just contact someone at the beachside restaurant. If you don't want to snorkel, you can still see lots of colourful fish by throwing some bread in the water.
