I stayed the night before heading out to fish. The room and bed were comfortable, clean, and quiet. The folks in the Tee Pee Lounge were friendly and helpful and on my way out, they provided ice for free early in the morning to keep my catch (which ended up being a couple of sockeye salmon) fresh for my trip home. I'd stay there again. The outside may look a little rough, but good value for the money, even at the height of the summer.

We stayed in several different hotels on our trip and was pleasantly surprised by our room at the Talkeetna Motel. Don't be deceived by the fact that it's an older building and yes, they're renovating and there were some building material on the closed in porch. Once we saw our nice clean room and remodeled bathroom we realized that it takes a little mess for success. At first we were disappointed when we phoned and the only vacancy was Room #1 with a queen bed and 2 singles since we were two couples traveling together but the room rate was very affordable and within walking distance to all the downtown activities and eating establishments. The owners couldn't have been more accommodating and we'd stay there again if given the opportunity!

When we drove into Talkeetna we were taken aback. We hadn't known that, in fact, this is a tourist trap sort of destination. We'd just picked it as it was more or less on the way to Denali. Lots of expensive stuff "in town", but just a few streets away is the Talkeetna. You check in at the Tee-Pee Lounge, an incongruous metal tent like structure housing a bar, which is also owned by the people who own the motel.

You wouldn't know it from the outside, but this is a nice place and more reasonable in price. They are redoing the rooms and there are hallways with all kinds of stuff lying around that probably came out of the rooms which are being renovated. But the room we were in was quite nice, with very nice quilts on the beds.

The owners are very friendly and went way beyond what might be expected to help us with what we needed.

Nothing fancy, but nice and homey. Very helpful owners who go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay...even the black-out curtains for the late-evening sun. Bar next door, but they own it too, so you won't be bothered by loud noise.
