“Genuine hospitality and surprisingly great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

My partner and I stayed here one night on our way South, with our 16 month old boy. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw our motel room - it had a separate room for our boy to sleep in, and the layout and fittings were modern and clean. It was excellent value - probably the best value motel room I've stayed in, during my 20 years of holidaying throughout NZ.

Their dinner recommendation was spot-on (pub just the other side of the railway tracks - great atmosphere, excellent food).

The next day we continued South, and it wasn't until we'd arrived at Oamaru we realised that our tickets for the Rugby World Cup game were not where they should be. After a frantic search of our bags, I remembered seeing our boy playing with the bag they were in, and had a sinking feeling as I recalled his favourite passtime of 'posting' things - most recently in rubbish bins!

I phoned up the Coronation Park, and explained my dilemma. The lady on the phone was extremely helpful; she said she'd go and check, and took my Australian phone number to call me back on. To cut a long story short, they found our tickets in the motel room's rubbish bin, and couriered them to our Dunedin accommodation so that we received them in time to see the game. Their actions averted what could have been a bit of a disaster, and they did it all with extreme friendliness and professionalism.

It's easy for places to seem good when everything is going well; it's when something goes wrong that the real gems shine, and that's what this place is!

“Friendly, clean and pet friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

We stayed here for one night with our two young children and dog. Our main motivation for choosing to stay here was that it was dog friendly. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and they were able to accommodate our change in arrival date, as we had car trouble. We had originally reserved a cabin, but highly recommend the additional expense of a self-contained unit. The space, warmth and convenience were really worth it. The children enjoyed the play area. Not right in the middle of town, so you may need to drive to get to amenities.

Room Tip: Self contained units are worth the additional cost, especially when it is cold outside.

“Ok, but probably wouldn't go back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2010

There isn't anything wrong with this place, and there are limited options in the Ashburton area. But I didn't really like it. Hard to say why. The units were clean and comfortable and spacious, but the layout of the area is messy with campervans and units of different sizes all around. Quite a few people there, and my stay was outside peak season. The office/reception are wasn't always staffed, and I thought the price was a bit high. There aren't many options in Ashburton, but next time I would look for another spot (perhaps not Ashburton at all).

Holiday parks are great because they cater to a range of different accommodation requirements - from tent sites through to self contained units. Most parks have "hands on" owners, so the office is not manned 24/7. All it takes, to let the owners know you would like service, is usually a ring on the bell. Holiday park guests enjoy the relaxed and easy going atmosphere.

Mid Canterbury is an awesome spot to stay. The area boasts excellent fishing rivers, a rich cultural experience with five museums and an acclaimed Art Gallery, award winning gardens and domains, great cafes and restaurants. Ashburton is a favourite with a lot of travellers who don't want the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities.

“Average Holiday Park - close to Christchurch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

We stayed here for our first night after arrivals from overseas in Christchurch. The Kiwi-Brand park is located close to the Hwy 1 and about 1 hour drive from the Airport. The campground (we had a powered site) was in a good shape, facilities were clean and well maintained. "IAC"-WiFi and Internetkiosk, taps at every power pole. Being relatively small, the site might become very packed in the season. Some passing trains at night. Haven't seen any groceries in walking distance, public phone and gas station are about 5 minutes walk. Ok for an overnight stay.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we sell basic groceries in our office, and the Countdown supermarket is only 800m down the road or a 15 minute walk.
