“Wonderful organisation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

We held a function recently at the Powderhorn. The venue was good and suited our purposes, but most importantly the services and staff were wonderful - they made the event very easy. Nothing seemed to be a problem - whether it was organising bike hire, transport, or customising the function - we had a very memorable event there and would recommend it highly.

Room Tip: request rooms away from railway line - there is a very early morning train that can sound close

“Top notch hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Very good hotel, easily the best in Ohakune. Very friendly service across the board, from the reception, to room servicing team to the restaurant staff. Room was nice except for the trains rumbling by during the night (3 or 4?). Tracks are just outside hotel. Location is a bit too far for Tongariro Crossing. Better to stay in Whakapapa.

“Lovely building but a bit disappointing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We spent our first night in Ohakune at the Powderhorn. The swimming pool is really a large hot tub and you have to be careful not to get water in your eyes because there is so much chlorine that one's eyes burn. The room was large and clean. You had to purchase the a card to use the Internet and the connection was poor in many locations. The breakfast was disappointing. For the price I would select another place in Okahune.

“Always a treat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I took a few friends visiting from the UK down to Mount Ruapehu for a snowboarding trip and as ever we were not disappointed. Simple the best place to stay in Ohakune.

“Awesome Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Everything about this hotel was amazing! There were six of us , three rooms and every room was different , great beds and very clean with everything you need. We were there in the summer for the Tongariro Crossing but can imagine it would be buzzing in winter with all the areas you could sit around the fire places in the Powderkeg bar and restaurant. The staff were fantastic, my favourite was Sarah who I encountered working at the stationary shop in the village as well. Very good communication skills and lovely personality. Staff at reception were great as well and gave us all the info we needed and really looked after us !!

Room Tip: Room with balcony was nice to have if you only need one double bed but all rooms great.
