We stayed as four adults and a young child for a couple of nights from 19th December, and having booked two rooms at prices we already considered to be good value, were pleased to be offered an upgrade to a family suite. The room was a pleasant 10 minute walk along the beach from the hotel reception, restaurants and only swimming pool that was heated at this time of year (to the hotel’s credit the other pools, although freezing and empty, were still dutifully attended by lifeguards), but made up for location in terms of peace and quiet away from other guests – a few coach parties rather than individuals.
Staff at the reception, restaurant, bar, room service, and towel cabana were all very courteous and helpful, even though English was obviously not always their first language. When we were suddenly called back to our room to attend to our child who was sick, the parking attendants had a golf cart with us in seconds and got us back in no time (I’d been all set to kick off my heels and run back barefoot!) Good, seamless service – no fuss.
Beach was clean and sandy. Room service, as other reviewers have mentioned, was swift, provided a good selection, and courteously delivered. The breakfast buffet was fresh and with plenty of choice. In the evening, the bar was pleasant, with outdoor Majlis style seating which gave a traditional Arabic touch, as did the musical performances by an Oud player – wonderful to listen to under the starlight against the sound of waves rippling on the beach – a world away from Dubai!
It would be too easy to complain about the décor, which was quite faded and not entirely to our taste, but at least neutral, and clean, and the furnishings comfortable. Once or twice during the night, some smells from outdoors drifted in but went away again as quickly and were not bothersome enough for us to need to close the windows to the cool sea breeze.
A couple of minor issues (curtain cord breakage and internet reconnection) were fixed within an hour of reporting them, again without fuss. Once fixed, the Wi-Fi was free, meaning that we didn’t have to miss contacting a relative in the UK on his birthday!
On visiting reception on the last day, the receptionist greeted me by name, and it’s these kinds of personal touches that, despite the need for a bit of a refurb, differentiates the Radisson Blu from the other hotels nearby in Aqah.
A lovely family stay.
