“Excellent Hotel but you need the right package”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This stay was booked on an 'all inclusive dine around basis' which gave excellent value when combined with Royal Club Rooms - This is a top package but saves considerable charges from individual venues which could be very pricey if ultised outside of the packge - I give some examples below. Its only dowside is that the chioce of drinks is extrememly limited - altho most items were of reasonable quality.

Reception was excellent, with Royal Club Check in on 15th Floor - clear and concise instruction on the resort. Room was available at 1000am. Checkout was done at main lobby desk but equally efficient. No errors in billing. Very arly checkout, and a full breakfast was provided in room at 0515.

Rooms are stamdard pretty much thruout hotel, all with sea views and most with balconies - Royal Club are higher and said to be better apointed. Most of what you would expect from first class hotel but strangely no shower hats. Good bed, large bathroom with separate efficient shower and separate WC/Bidet area. Toiletries good quality. MiniBar chargeable - even for all inclusive.

Royal club lounge serves snacks/soft drinks all day with Tea Time feature. Also free WiFi which is chargeable in rooms but if you login at lounge this ports you to main system which becomes free until you log out and so defeats the object.

Astros Bar on 20th Floor is available on all inclusive for just one hour a day (7-8) but serves good amuse-gueles with drinks. Care: 4 large spirits (between 2 people) free during this period but otherwise billed at about GBP 90,-. Beach and pool Bars - standard.

Taste Restaurant is flagship and also serves a la carte breakfast for Royal Club residents - superb at breakfast and Diner with huge Thai menu. Highly recomended. Swaad Indian restaurant (evenings) a bit of a curates egg - One very good meal and one poor one. Gonu Beach Restaurant generally good but too windy/cool while we were there - open lunch and dinner. Main Views Buffet restaurant standard international buffet with themed nights - generally better than an average buffet - but very crowded at breakfast.

Staff were generally very helpful, even charming and friendly - always a smile and assistance.

Pool and beach facilities are excellent, but here a word of warning. The heavy oil/tar problem is a daily occurance (and sitting on the straits of Hormuz will continue to be one). This unfortuneate, not the managements fault (they do their best with free baby oil and wipes) but do not warn about it - which is ostrich like. I would still recomend the hotel for a beach holiday but advise against swimming in the sea or walking the beach between High/Low water marks. So use the beach for sunbathing and the pool for swimming. We did not use the Gym.

A final note, it passes my wifes health check on providing low fat spread, yohhurt and soya milk.

Room Tip: Must go Royal Club for the sea views (15-19 floors).

“Great time had by all”

We booked for 2 nights in a club room and enjoyed our stay so much we decided to stay for another. The hotel has a great location on the beach, although there is nothing nearby to visit. If you are looking for a place to relax, then this is your place. The club room offered great value with al a carte breakfast in the Taste restaurant, afternoon tea and sandwiches and happy hour from 7-9pm each evening. The only thing missing which is normally found included in club room rates was Internet access although this could be accessed free of charge on the 15th floor. The hotel was very quiet which was great and service was particularly good throughout the hotel. Barbara in Astros bar was great. It was disappointing that after a lovely stroll on the beach, we found our feet to be covered in oil that we couldn't get off. The lifeguards helped and gave us baby oil to remove the oil, but I don't expect to get oil on my feet at a 5 star resort - and there are no signs warning you of the presence of oil. Without being asked, the hotel sent us across some free drinks to apologise which was appreciated. Overall, a great relaxing stay.

“Beautiful well-maintained property with excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This is the first review I am ever writing, but the hotel left such a great impression on me that I just had to share my experiences with other travelers.

From the moment we arrived, we loved it.
The property is beautiful, very comfortable and cozy, and it shows that the staff is very well-trained how to keep up this standard.
Every single member of staff that we encountered was exceptionally friendly, in a natural way. Whereas in some hotels you feel like people are only greeting you because they have to, the staff in the Meridien was friendly because they wanted to. They are obviously happy to work there, and the management seems to take good care of them.
They really go the extra mile to serve the guests.
You can find nice rooms basically everywhere, but what really makes the difference is the service, and the Meridien does an excellent job in both.

We stayed in the 16th floor and had the most amazing view on the beach and the sea. We could even hear the waves, it was fantastic.

The hotel is quite far from Fujairah itself, so if you are coming for a weekend break (like we did), it is the perfect place. Everything you need is in the hotel, starting from restautanrs (really good food by the way, and plenty of choice), bars, shops, spa, everything.

The only criticism that I have, speaking from a hotelier's point of view, is that the check-in and check-out took a little too long.
But this is not really a big point, when you go there you are on vacation anyway and not under time pressure.

Thank you to the team of Le Meridien for making our stay so wonderful! We will for sure come back.

Room Tip: Club room - starting from the 15th floor with a fantastic view.

“Tar, tar, and tar again on the beach and in the water”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We were there a few years ago. In those days, it was a fabulous hotel and location, with a fantastic beach, very clean, and extremely clean waters, pretty warm up to very warm. In a few words: a dream. In the last two years, I read many reviews, complaining with the TAR PROBLEM on the beach and in the WATER. Even the last reviews of Decemeber/November 2011 are reporting on this problem. The reason is simple: the Emirate of Fujairah does allow tankers to be CLEANED in its territorial waters. Don't they have a Tourism Ministry to intervene and abolish and forbid such a "terrific and poisonous procedure"?? In the last two years I had planned several times to go to this Meridien Al Aqah again (Hotel+Food+Service are impeccable). I was afraid of the TAR; and I went to Ras al Kaimah instead. Next November/ December I should like to go again to Al Aqah; before booking I shall read spasmodically and regularly the TRIPADVISOR's Reviews to discover whether the TAR problem has been solved. Otherwise, I am very sorry, no Fujairah, no Al Aqah and no Meridien.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the front side, looking at the sea.
