We stayed here our last holiday as a couple (pre first child) and couldn't have chosen better.
By the end of the holiday we were so in love with the place that we are still holding out hopes of getting married there.
the mansion - an atmospheric and beautiful ottoman building with immaculate gardens.
rooms - stonehouse rooms are modern, spotless but not without character. the mansion rooms probably great for an experience (they are almost museum pieces or like the rooms of a stately home usually viewed from behind a cord) or those with limitless budgets! the en suites have had to be incorporated in a sympathetic way by cleverly hiding them in the large, ornate wardrobes and so may not suit those less who prefer comfort over style.
food - the breakfasts are wonderful. often the best meal of the day and not the run of mill offering. breakfast can only be surpassed (arguably) by the meals at the restaurant in the evening. it was something of a regret that the restaurant is by some distance the best in the region as we didn't want to eat at the hotel every evening as it seemed a shame not to explore. i can't stop thinking about the lamb shank we were made by special request on the last night. similarly the desserts are extraordinary.
area - some see the location as a downside but I really liked the fact it was hidden in a small village. you can exit the mansion and walk straight into village life (which is fairly steady paced!), the local mosque is nearby and you can hear the call to prayer which adds again to the atmosphere. datca is a short drive away and there are some lovely small villages in the surrounding area such as eski datca
beaches - as it was early in the season the beach club was a bit too quiet. we felt more comfortable making the journeys to the beaches further west eg palamut. the sea is also by far the cleanest we have seen. although not strictly a beach, one highlight was the swimming at the ancient site of Knidos (also well worth the journey)
service/ staff - very accomodating without being intrusive.
in order to be balanced i should mention the (very minor) downsides:
- this place is quiet and tranquil. do not go if you dont enjoy the company of your travel companion! even if there are other guests you probably wont see them. it was very quiet when we were there as it was early season. great if you like to feel like you have the place to yourself. (it may be different in high season as the garden bar wasnt even open yet when we stayed)
- the stonehouse rooms have light curtains and wooden walkways and stairs outside. if you are a light sleeper you may want to consider this when requesting your room.
