We were shocked and amazed at this review. We stayed at the Mehtap last June and could not find one single fault with the hotel, staff or any other aspect.

We would urge anyone thinking of visiting this hotel to completely ignore this review and read all of the many others. We have never met more helpful people than Umit, Serap and their staff and we are looking forward to seeing them and many other returning guests this coming June.

We just wished we had written our own review following our last holiday but hope that these comments will do something to mitigate the very unhelpful previous comments.

On reading the review " Not As It Seems" I have to urge other readers to read the other reviews of the Mehtap and judge for themselves. We have visited this hotel 4 times and do not recognise it from the description given by this reviewer, in fact I wonder if they are talking about somewhere else! Umit and Serap who own the hotel, are the loveliest people and not in the least like the description given by the reviewer. Their son who the reviewer says they are keen to "marry off" is only 6 years old and I think they may have mixed him up with Erdem, another lovely young man who works at the hotel and who is certgainly in no rush to be married off. The Mehtap has many, many guests who return year upon year, and sometimes several times a year, and they would hardly do so if there was any truth in the review in question. As for the claims about the cats: we have seen a total two cats there on our visits, and I am pretty certain that neither came to an untimely end at the hands of Umit or Serap! The breakfast is typically Turkish and perfectly good with bread, fruit, cheeses etc and I wonder what this reviewer expects of a budget hotel. There is absolutely no way that Umit and Serap only care about money - they cannot do enough to make your stay thoroughly enjoyable and you are treated as an old friend. I think if people take the time to read through the countless very favourable reviews of this hotel, they will have no problem in working out which is more representative. This young couple have worked very, very hard to establish the Mehtap's well deserved reputation and the review in question is extremely unfair and not at all objective. We last visited in September 2011 and have re-booked for June 2012, along with three other couples who are regulars like ourselves. .

We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children only to discover the children were sharing a bed because they wanted to put our 3 year old in a cot! Breakfast medioka but nothing special. Floors very slippery and if you think they're animal lovers you're wrong! They have a new cat/kitten every year to please the English tourist then after that.............!!! All they care about is money and marrying off their son. We thought they were nice but towards the end of our holiday felt sick when around them. If you're an animal lover avoid this place because the things you might learn will give you nightmares for years!

I have racked my brain to find a fault with The Mehtap. From the moment you arrive you are wrapped in the warmth and friendship of this delightful little hotel. Umit and Serap, together with their hilarious nephew Erdam, ensure that everything is perfect.

People reading these reviews will know all about the gorgeous new bathrooms and larger rooms. Umit planned and managed the works. He showed tremendous vision and courage when he undertook the project and deserves all the praise that is being heaped upon him. As does Serap who is totally committed to making sure all guests are well looked after.

All this is accompanied by great humour and fun which is addictive as so many fellow guests will testify. What joy after a day doing whatever one wishes (for us usually on a boat wth a wonderful group of friends that we have made over the years), to return to the cosy bar area and enjoy a nightcap with the majority of those staying at The Mehtap.

So, finally, I come back to the only thing I can think of that I could possibly complain about - THERE ARE NO FLUFFY SLIPPERS IN THE ROOMS! (Probably will be when we retrn next year!!!).
