I’ve never written a negative review before and did give it a lot of thought before posting this. As a solo traveller, I chose Grenadine Lodge as I wanted somewhere peaceful, quiet and where I could remain anonymous. The lodge itself is really beautiful and is located in a lovely part of Dalyan, far enough out of town to enjoy the tranquillity but close enough to access by bike, or foot. The rooms are small and clean, they are basic but sufficient. The breakfast is ok – there were no eggs or real coffee – for these you have to pay extra. During my stay, there was a yoga retreat taking place. I really did not enjoy being a solo traveller alongside them. They were a big group and I felt as though they took over. They had a massive table at breakfast and sitting alone amongst them did, for me, feel awkward. My real problem with Grenadine Lodge however, was the staff. The manager was great on email before my trip – she responded to queries very promptly and was helpful. However, I found her not the friendliest or warmest sort in person. I felt I was annoying her if I needed to ask a question and that she had an attitude. I thought, as it was the end of the tourist season, she was perhaps tired. There are lots of stray dogs around Dalyan and one night a very sweet, harmless female puppy followed me back (with no encouragement from me). The owner has two dogs herself and understandably did not want another dog on the property. However, instead of ignoring this puppy or perhaps locking her dogs away for a short while until the puppy got bored and moved on, a member of her staff ‘removed’ the puppy in a very unpleasant way, literally dragging her by her neck. This was really awful to witness and awful for the poor dog.
There was also a situation with the cleaning lady. The owner confused/misunderstood the issue and basically wrote a rude email to me. She was not able to solve the problem in a customer focused or polite manner.
I spent time in the hostel next door (Bauhaus) and met friendly people there who told me the food was all organic, home-made and reasonably priced. The gardens there are gorgeous with a pond, relaxation area, swing chairs and loungers hand made by the owner and it is more like a family run B and B than a hostel. I wish I had stayed there.
