“Mr Zu was the best part of SUMMIT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I had been to SAPA before and stayed at a older hotel and it was less developed, the food was less and the quality of the rooms were less. Mr Zu ran the travel and reception area, spoke great English, knew the questions that we were going to ask and answered them quickly. He was genuinely interested in the guests enjoying their stay. I stayed over the TET New Year and he was wishing every one a happy new year (and gave me part of his traditional rice cake.) The hotel tried hard but some rooms were cold, mine had a problem with sewer odor in the drains but these problems can be just a short lived problem. Bad attitude of the STAFF would make me stay away...I will definetly go back to this HOTEL again and again.

Room Tip: get to the upper floors with a balcony...extra 10 dollars is worth it.

“Cold, Damp, Dark and Depressing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Avoid. We stayed in Late December and were book din through a private VIP Tour when booking in Hanoi. We had a VIP Room on the upper floor which had wet and damp walls, no Central Heating, a damp duvet, grim decor and loads of condensation. All in all very grim. Passable food, just about, but nothing to rave about, distant staff and you have to pay $5 for the privilege of a plastic heater which is reasonably ineffective!!!!!! An ugly monstrosity is half way to being built next door which will obscure views further. This hotel needs renovating and it's sad to see how such things can be left for periods where they fall into a bad state.

Room Tip: Ummmmm!!! Not sure-take a lucky dip and cross your fingers???

“Cold, very cold”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I was cold the entire time I was at this hotel. I went on one of the organised tours and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the outside of it, but when I got my room I was very disappointed. It was freezing cold, there was no hot water, and the TV remote didn't work, just to name a few things. The actual tour was pretty alright, but I don't really have anything to compare it to.
I definitely think there are better options than the Summit.

“Poor service, cold hotel, poorly run tours”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

The hotel run many different tours and often when you are booking the tours in Hanoi or somewhere else in Vietnam you have no idea which hotel you will be staying at, so make sure if you are booking ask which hotel it is run by and where you will be staying.

The hotel itself is freezing. We had been warned that Sapa was cold and even on the way up to Sapa that many of the hotels do not have heating in the rooms. We were incredibly lucky that the electric blanket in our room worked so the bed was warm but all the others in our groups had no electric blanket so had a cold night. You could always see your breath in the hotel and we sat freezing in the dining hall eating at all times of day. There are a couple of heaters but they don't want to put them on and we even had one taken off us while we were sitting in front of it.

The staff at the hotel were rude and really didn't care about helping you in any way. You are just a number and they seem to want to get you in and out as quickly as possible. We were told our room would be ready when we got our key and walked into the room it was still dirty and they did such a quick job cleaning they left rubbish in the room.

The tours were very badly run and we spent more time sitting around than actually seeing the villages and local area. The walking we did was good although we often only walked for 2 hours a day when it was meant to be a 3 day tour! The guide we had was a lovely lady from one of the tribes, her English was excellent and see was very informative and made the trip worthwhile. Other than that we sat waiting for buses, trains for hours and hours. When you said something about it they often stopped talking to you or just walked away so they didn't have to deal with any problems.

Do not stay at this hotel. Try and book with another tour operator that do not use this hotel.

“Good value, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I arrived at the hotel on a package tour but was given a room immediately. All meals were provided, though some with a little more msg than was ideal. Service was excellent - the electric blanket and an extra duvet kept the sapa cold at bay. Overall certainly not 4 or 5 stars, but comfortable enough for a night or two
