Your reviews were mostly excellent and having stayed at a fantastic Leela in Udaipur we were excited but left early very disappointed with both the hotel and the area. Generally the hotel rooms look sad and the service whilst very keen is let down by poor english and incompetence.
For example at check one member of staff was responsible for the switchboard, concierge, luggage and other guest needs, I felt unwelcome. Some Club rooms have very noisy waves which quickly become grating.

a lovely resort cleverly perched atop a cliff, with its own private beach!! choose between the cliffside rooms or ones on the beach.......a lovely buggy ride down a winding little road connects the two.or choose to walk uphill (test your fitness levels!). Enjoy the sunset, from a stunningly perched bar on the cliff, or the beach....and a morning cuppa on your own private balcony...the famed kerala backwaters are a half hour ride away, there's a friendly fisherman who hangs around the beach and will be happy to arrange this for you.....and if you request him, he helps you shop for the kerala spices in the market before dropping you back!

the resort itself is very well appointed - good tastefully furnished rooms, and good service, which rounds up the whole experience!!

We visited the Leela after a week in the North travelling round so we were ready for a rest and relax, and that's exactly what we got.
We found all the staff to be attentive , polite and happy to help make our stay a pleasure.
We actually only ate in the hotel twice apart from breakfast , the food I thought was very good quality, and the setting at Times on the beach was perfect, however as with all hotels food and drink are expensive when compared to outside.
We did find a great seafood restaurant on the corner in the lighthouse area, it looked to the beach, you pick your fish and how you want it cooking, food was good, prices were cheap and Nithi a great waiter.
We paid 150 round trip in a Tuck Tuck from outside the gate, which is probably to much, but much cheaper than using the hotel Taxi, and its easy to walk.
If I had to criticise anything the Leela, its the calling to prayer at around 5.30 am, its not loud but does slightly disturb you , I think the rooms need better sound proofing. But by no means does this wake you fully, and should not put you off.
I would not hesitate to recommend Leela and would return.
