Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort is a great place to get rejuvenated. We stayed at the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort. Their website is www.somatheeram.org. I am giving these details so someone cannot get confused with the other one with the same name nearby. We landed at about 3am and after clearing immigration and collecting our bags we exited the airport. The driver from Somatheeram was waiting for us with a board with our names on it. We were taken to the car and bottles of water given. The drive to the resort was about 30mins. On the way we saw people starting their day and walking or setting up their stalls, etc. We finally reached the resort. We were welcomed and were given a green coconut to drink while they checked us in. We were taken to our room which was a standard cottage. The cottage was very basic however clean. As long as you don’t expect much this cottage is fine for the purpose which is to sleep in. There were small ants we saw on the table in the room and dining tables from time to time which irritated us. We just used the room for sleeping during the night and in the evening for showering and getting ready before dinner. Next day after breakfast we went to see the consultants who prepared our treatment plan which was scheduled for the seven days to start at 4pm for two hours everyday. For breakfast there were south Indian dishes like sambhar, idly, curries, rice, and also western dishes eggs, omelettes, etc. Fresh juices, tea, coffee were also provided. The place is built in an amazing setting. It is on a hill top and greenery around it and beach on the other side. To get to the beach you have to go down the cliff on lots of steps which we found okay. In the morning you see the local fisherman there hauling their catch in. The resort has their own section on the beach where sun beds and towels are provided. Life guards are on duty as well. We used to go to meditation class first thing everyday followed by little breakfast than yoga. Once we finish yoga it is time for a fresh juice or coconut drink followed with lunch. That now took us till 2pm. We than used to go to the beach for 2 hours and then return for our treatments at 4pm. The treatments were varied everyday, basically different massages. For Men massages were done by men and for women massages were done by women. Everyday before the treatments you would see the doctor. After the treatments you were given a red robe to wear with nothing inside! After our treatments we used to have fresh juice or coconut drink and wait for an hour or so before showering and getting ready for dinner. They have a non veg dish at dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. All the staff were great from cleaners to gardeners to waiters and treatment therapist. In addition to tips as a gift for these staff take some sweets, pens, etc.
