“IF you can find something else, do so”

Maybe we just don't know what places in Alaska are like... We did find that everything in tourist season is way more expensive than we are used to. With that being said, we found this place to be about one step above camping out and maybe therefore highway robbery.

$90+ for a tiny cramped room up the stairs. They promised wifi but it was non-existent. They said it would work in the lobby, but it didn't. Ratty furniture and we were a bit skeptical about the cleanliness of the shower. The bed linens were clean. No TV, no phone.

“Bait and Switch, don't stay here”

We reserved a room for $80 and were charged $92 when checking out. Owner said a mistake was made even though we confirmed the room and rate before leaving home. Rooms are really small, it's a oil boom building (1970's ) that shows its wear-and-tear with basics. If you want better treatment and no bait-and-switch, go elsewhere

“Not so good place to sleep”

We stayed in this hotel in June 2010. Our room was in the front on top of the main entrance. When we got there, we seem to have been the only guess at the time. About one hour later another group came in and were given the room next to us. They were extremely loud and the walls are paper thin. There was also a child running up and down the stairs making all kinds of noise. When asked to be moved to another room because of the noise, they did, but did not seem very happy to do so. Both rooms seem clean and it had a nice hot shower. The staff was nice. Next time we would probably drive to Glennallen instead of stopping at Paxson.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the main hotel entrance

“Comfy Bed & Nice Linens”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

The comfortable bed and nice linens were by far the very best qualities of this hotel. The room I stayed in was over the main entry door to the restaurant so it was quite noisy. The walls are tissue thin and I am thankful I had ear plugs - though the people in the next room came in late and carried on conversations that sounded like they were right in bed with me. There was no telephone and no television. Fortunately there was free wireless Internet, so I watched television via Hulu and I think all of the other travelers were insanely jealous thinking I got TV and they didn't. No bath tub - shower only. The heater was on "extreme" and could only be controlled by opening the window - magnifying the noise issue from below. I was disappointed that the cost was so high for this location offering so few amenities. The restaurant was also, in my opinion, overpriced. I ordered a bowl of chili that I am pretty sure contained only 3 ingredients - canned pork & beans, salsa and a bit of ground meat. It would have been completely tasteless without the addition of cheese and onions that were an additional cost.

“Basic en route overnighter”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

You don't get any amenities to speak of for $90 but it was the least expensive place we could find along this highway driving from Fairbanks to Palmer. It served our basic need of a place to sleep and shower. Older building that's not all that nice to look at but we got a fair night's rest. Room has bed, table and bath with sink, toilet & shower stall. No view to speak of. Didn't eat breakfast in the restaurant which is more like a coffee shop and relatively high priced. We had our own food and ate in our room or on the outside patio tables since there weren't alot of flying bugs at that time of early September. Willy the owner was good about answering our questions by email.
