“Did Not Want to Leave!”

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights over Memorial Day weekend. It was unplanned as we were just going to camp, but decided to check it out. Our cabin was a decent size and had an awesome view of the mountains and the mining park. It was very quiet with only the creek running behind our cabin, the wind in the brush and a single bird chirping.
The staff was amazing especially the owner and the interior of the lodge where the restaurant was located had all sorts of older pictures of the lodge with a high vaulted roof. The food was good even though the price was a bit steep, but you are out in the middle of nowhere so that can be expected.
A lovely place to get away from the city for both visitors and local residents.

“Stay here for the scenery and location”

The views and scenery are beautiful and the location is wonderful. The cabins are within minutes of several recommended hiking trails and the very neat Independence State Mine. The cabins are rustic and in need of a bit of TLC, but we didn't go to Alaska to lounge around in the lap of luxury type of hotels. Would I recommend this place to friends? - it depends...

Travel Agent and I clearly confused Hatcher Pass Lodge with Hatcher Pass B&B.

This was not what I wanted nor would ever choose on my own. Our cabin had a water jug that leaked on the floor, no extra pillow cases for the extra pillows, a comfortor torn in several locations, a stained couch and carpet, and a window screen held in with duct tape. I will post photos.

The location is spectacular and given some funds and TLC this lodge could really be something. Until that day occurs, these cabins are only suitable for backpackers or others expecting camping-like accomodations.

“rough it a little in a beautiful alpine valley”

The main building encompasses restaurant, bar and the only running water on the property so, this is where the flush toilets and shower is. The cabins have clean, working chemical toilets in the bathrooms with a small sink that only has a drain. We had an A-frame cabin with queen bed in the loft (comfortable) and full size futon (uncomfortable) on the main floor, Cabins have electricity but need to be a little updated along with the linens. Hap, charge us $5 more and update a little. Great hiking nearby. This place is dated and memorable in a good way. I would only recommend to certain friends.

“Unique and rustic at a beautiful location!”

The location is gorgeous! Independence Mine is nearby and also worth a visit. The cabins are comfortable yet rustic and has been mentioned- no running water. It rained a lot before and during our stay. I think they had had to clean some water out of our cabin before our visit because the floor was just slightly damp when we arrived. But it dried out quickly and stayed dry inside while we were there.

My first reaction when walking in the door of our cabin was- "this is where the Mythbusters stayed!". And it was- they tested the Cabin Fever Myth there. It was really cool staying there.

My only complaint is that we had a large group for dinner (which they definitely knew about in advance), and as a result dinner was incredibly slow. But at least the views were nice while we were waiting (and we waited a very very long time).
