“Terrible service and food, expensive and spartan”

We stopped at Hatcher Pass Lodge after a day hike in the area. The food was horrendous both in quality and price, and it cost $16.50 for a pizza that clearly had come out of the freezer aisle. The service was slow and of poor quality, and we had to remind our server 3 times that we had ordered nachos as an appetizer. The nachos were $9 and literally came out of the microwave.

If you are in the area and are hungry, drive back to Palmer.

“Delightful escape”

We stayed here for 3 nights in the middle of our two-week vacation, in a cabin that overlooked the mountains. We were very comfortable here. Our cabin had a table with chairs, a comfortable couch, a very comfortable platform bed and a very easy-to-use chemical toilet in the bathroom which included a sink and a Coleman container with a gallon of water. Towels/washcloths were provided. Close by was the main lodge which had restrooms, a shower for guests to use, and a lovely dining area where we ate all our meals. Eating here was not an in-and-out experience - service was very slow. But after a couple of meals, we came prepared ready to relax and take our time. We had read that food was pricey, and it was (hence the 4 stars instead of 5 for "value") but it was also well prepared from fresh ingredients. Nearby is the Independence Mine which made for a very interesting excursion on a day that was too foggy and rainy to do much other trekking about. Had the weather been more cooperative, this would have been perfect. As it was, we simply enjoyed a very peaceful time together in this mountain lodging without tv and with some good reading material.

“Hatchers Pass Lodge is such a great spot”

Just stayed at Hatchers Pass lodge for my wife and I's 3 wedding anniversary. What a great little place. At the top of the pass in the real mountains.

Hap the owner and all the other guest were all so happy and friendly. Dogs were oK inside the main lodge with was cool.

Our cabin was so cosy. Basic but cosy with beautiful private view. We actually saw the Northern Lights from our bed.

The cross-country ski trails up there are just so cool as well. They get groomed by the state and they rock. You get to try a little downhill which is exhilarating on skis.

Would recommend to anybody. We had a lovely time. Any sunny day up there is a great day

“Did Not Want to Leave!”

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights over Memorial Day weekend. It was unplanned as we were just going to camp, but decided to check it out. Our cabin was a decent size and had an awesome view of the mountains and the mining park. It was very quiet with only the creek running behind our cabin, the wind in the brush and a single bird chirping.
The staff was amazing especially the owner and the interior of the lodge where the restaurant was located had all sorts of older pictures of the lodge with a high vaulted roof. The food was good even though the price was a bit steep, but you are out in the middle of nowhere so that can be expected.
A lovely place to get away from the city for both visitors and local residents.

“Stay here for the scenery and location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2010

The views and scenery are beautiful and the location is wonderful. The cabins are within minutes of several recommended hiking trails and the very neat Independence State Mine. The cabins are rustic and in need of a bit of TLC, but we didn't go to Alaska to lounge around in the lap of luxury type of hotels. Would I recommend this place to friends? - it depends...
