“Clean and quiet, set in lovely remote settings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

Stayed here in 2005, 2008 and 2010 and on all occasions stayed in Room 22. The rooms are basic but clean, and we liked our room because it's separated away from the main building which is the pub, and is on the edge of the property.
Catch Hyder on a lovely day and the views in this area are outstanding - from the drive down (bear glacier), to bear creek (lucky enough to see bears catching salmon) to Salmon Glacier (amazing views you actually drive up an old mining road and look down on the glacier).
Just love the remoteness of the place!

“clean, large room w/ full kitchen and closest access to grizzly bears at Fish Creek and to Salmon Glacier”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

This is an older place and not prepossessing from the outside, but fine and clean inside. The beds were comfortable and the full kitchen completely equipped, water hot and great water pressure. It's situated among tall fir trees and in-your-face mountains -- spectacular setting. Everyone here -- staff, townspeople -- is very friendly and helpful. One direction down the road is the harbor (Portland Canal, which is Pacific Ocean) and other direction is Fish Creek, where US Forest Service maintains Fish Creek wooden viewing platform for seeing many grizzlies (w/ cubs) getting salmon -- incredibly exciting!! Further up same road is Salmon Glacier -- where you look DOWN at humongous glaring-white glacier. If you stay anywhere else (Stewart, BC) you have to deal with hassle of customs back into Canada after seeing these sights. We stayed 4 nights -- wish it had been longer.

“Great hospitality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

The sleeping accommodation is adequate for a short stay in Hyder. What made the BIG difference to our vist was the hospitality extended to us by Gary, the owner of this property. Gary's hospitality went way beyond what one could ever expect.

“Didn't love it!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2008

If you book - get one of the rooms away from the main building. Our friends had a room in the main building and it was awful - they wouldn't take their shoes off to shower!

Our room was okay - Rustic. Clean. Not over priced.
Just lacking.
The food available was good.
The internet service worked!

“SeAlaskaInn.....Friendly People....Local Flavor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2007

My 3-ship of motorcycles pulled into Hyder with no reservations or idea of where we would stay. The town is no-frills but reaks of the wild west...all the roads are unpaved and everyone we passed gave us a friendly nod or wave. After riding around for a few minutes we found the SealaskaInn. It's no name-brand hotel, but we were considering camping and when we walked into their pub we felt like we had found a base in Hyder. Everyone there was warm and friendly and we took both lunch and dinner there.....both were good. We took rooms at this Inn and they were very clean and we were very comfortable. I consider it one of the real travel bargins of my 3 month oddessy across the US and Canada. If you are traveling with a prissy wife or other high maintenance partner, Hyder is not your stop.....but if you want to see what Alaska really is all about, want to get the scoop from their engaging locals, this place is all about Alaskan flavor.

Kindest regards,

Robert Broadwell
