This is an older place and not prepossessing from the outside, but fine and clean inside. The beds were comfortable and the full kitchen completely equipped, water hot and great water pressure. It's situated among tall fir trees and in-your-face mountains -- spectacular setting. Everyone here -- staff, townspeople -- is very friendly and helpful. One direction down the road is the harbor (Portland Canal, which is Pacific Ocean) and other direction is Fish Creek, where US Forest Service maintains Fish Creek wooden viewing platform for seeing many grizzlies (w/ cubs) getting salmon -- incredibly exciting!! Further up same road is Salmon Glacier -- where you look DOWN at humongous glaring-white glacier. If you stay anywhere else (Stewart, BC) you have to deal with hassle of customs back into Canada after seeing these sights. We stayed 4 nights -- wish it had been longer.
