“Quiet getaway with great wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

We arrived and were given a complementary plate of smoked salmon and halibut crackers, free bottle of wine, and for our anniversary, a free bottle of port and chocolates. They gave us a tour of the room and had lots of brochures about what to see and do in Homer. There were two rooms in a small cabin, but both were independent of each other. You had to go down steps to reach the room, so it was not handicapped accessible. There was a goldfish pond with a small waterfall, and we could hear the water trickling from the room. On the porch, there was a table and chairs and a grill. The kitchen had a coffee pot, hot water kettle, refrigerator, freezer, dishes, oatmeal, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cider, muffins, and fruit. The bedroom had two easy chairs, books, a large flat screen tv, two fuzzy bathrobes, a space heater, and a queen size bed. The bathroom had a large shower stall, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. In the common outdoor area, there was a hot tub, steam room, fire pit, swing set, and large lawn. The main building has a wine tasting area where you get a 10% discount. The B and B usually has a two night minimum but we timed it where they had a one night opening. Overall, this place is very quiet, relaxing, and a nice escape for a couple.

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of days for his R&R from Afghanistan. It was the perfect place. It was quiet, relaxing, beautiful, and the rooms were awesome! They kept everything supplied with nice amenities such as cozy robes and slippers. This is what a bed and breakfast should be!

“Best place to stay in Homer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

We stayed here for four days and absolutely loved the place. Dorothy, the owner, spared no expense in making this a beautiful and romantic spot to stay. Her attention to detail in the guest rooms, the grounds and the winery really make for a special experience. We stayed in the "Cowboy" suite, and the decor was great and the room comfortable. The winery right next door serves up a wide variety of Alaskan wines and they are very generous with the tastings. The suite comes with access to a cedar hot tub (perfect for after a day out on the river fishing), a steam room, fire pit and gas grill (perfect for grilling your catch). We can't imagine staying anywhere else but here if we ever make it back. Finally... the view, spectacular. On a clear day you can see the glacier from your suite.

“Very Nice, but a bit pricey”

Nice clean room w/ good do it yourself continental breakfast. Enjoyed the wine tasting at the winery. Hot tub was OK, but not that hot and no jets - more of a soaking tub. It's a ways out of town, but has nice views. Hosts were knowledgeable and friendly, but we felt it was on the pricey side - it was the most expensive place we stayed at in our 2 weeks in Alaska, but not the "hands down" nicest place or best value for the dollar.

“Hidden Gem in Homer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2008

We stayed at Bear Creek last week and had an absolutely wonderful stay. When you first arrive at the property it's a bit deceiving--you're in a large parking lot with the wine shop to your right. I was worried that the place might be a bit blah. Boy, was I wrong. When you walk around the back of the property to the suites it's as though you are magically transformed to a hidden oasis. Beautiful wood decking leads you down some steps and across a little foot bridge to a lovely room. We stayed in the Artic Suite. When we looked out the windows we felt like we were in a tree house--our view was of a beautiful wooded area. The suite included a mini kitchen, two comfy chairs, a quaint queen bed and a nice bathroom with an over-sized shower.

We enjoyed the split of wine that was in our room while relaxing in the cedar hot tub with a view of the mountains. This was definitely my idea of vacation! Breakfast is simple and is left in your room the night before--muffins, coffee, oatmeal. Perfect for us.

The hostess was extremely friendly as was the winery staff. We spent some time wine tasting and just enjoying the gorgeous scenery.

I would definitely recommend a stay at Bear Creek and hope that someday we can stay there again.

  • Liked — The incredible views and peaceful surroundings...and the hot tub!
  • Disliked — Carrying our bags to the rooms?? There are stairs and we had big bags, but so worth it!
