We stayed three nights in August 2005 at Denali Lakeside Lodging, in Healy, about 15 minutes north of Denali National Park. We wanted some place a little away from the crowds of "glitter gulch."
We were SO pleased with our stay. We stayed in the "Toolshed" cabin, which is much larger than we expected. It's beautifully decorated and has everything you would want for a great stay -- kitchen w/stove, microwave, refrigerator; nice sofa with TV and some great videos on Alaska; a comfortable bed; beautiful bathroom with claw foot tub; and even a washer & dryer. Everything was extremely clean and we felt right at home.
The views are just stunning from the cabin. You are right on Lake Otto, and the owners keep a kayak and paddle boat out so you can enjoy the lake. The mountain views are spectacular. We sat on the front porch in the evenings and just took it all in. They've also got a great, big, and new hot tub that you can enjoy in the evenings.
The service is flawless. We were having some luggage shipped to the cabin, and it didn't arrive on time. The owners made several calls for us, offered to lend us clothing, the whole works. They were absolutely wonderful.
On top of it, the price was great -- $120 night. Next time, we hope to stay for a full week. And if you can believe it, each day you'd come back to a freshly cleaned cabin - they'd make the beds, change the towels, everything except do the dishes. :-)
