Maid has not swept or emptied wastebaskets for the 3 days we stayed.

The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. We rented a pickup right at the hotel and drove up to the lake where we were able to see lots of Bears and Eagles. It was very convienent. The breakfast if very basic so we being pretty hungry oppted for a full breakfast nearby. We were catching the State Ferry that afternoon and they provided transport to us free of charge.
I can easily look past a hotel being a bit rundown or dated, but all it would take to turn this one into a gem would be some new beds. Got to say the mattress was not that impressive. This was the one morning on our trip we could have slept in but both my wife and I were anxious to get up early to put an end to a restless night on a poor mattress.

Haines Alaska is a beautiful and fairly isolated town. The Captain's Choice is a bit dated, but clean and the staff is very helpful. There is a new laundry facility for Motel guests which was very convenient. The motel serves a continental breakfast, but we chose to visit a nearby restaurant recommended by the front desk.

Located near the harbor, the setting is beautiful, and many rooms have views of the harbor and boat dock.

Captain's Choice Motel is definitely the best option in Haines.

We stayed two nights at the Captain's Choice, July 8 - 10th, and had a room with a seaview. The room was spacious, clean and the view was very special. The motel had an outdoor deck with tables and chairs overlooking the channel and this was truly magnificent.
We had a lunch picnic on the deck one day. The continental breakfast was good, the service and staff were excellent and there was good parking close to the room.
A wonderful place to stay in haines.
