“Beautiful location. Enjoyable hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights. Each room was very nice: Clean, spacious, beautifully updated, quiet, and very comfortable. Both rooms had a great view although one was on the front side of the hotel and the other was on the back(ski slope) side. Breakfast was terrific. Nice bar. Despite the fact that this is a large, busy hotel with lots of tours in the summer, the service was first rate. And the scenery was fabulous, complete with a black bear right outside the restaurant window one morning .

Room Tip: The rooms near the tram might be noisy.

“Great Resort and Beautiful Scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I went to the Alyeska Resort with my 97-year-old grandmother and my sister. The hotel is beautiful and they could not have been more accommodating. All of the staff were friendly and tried their best to help with any request we had. My grandmother especially liked the free hotel shuttle, which has a wheelchair lift. The shuttle will take hotel guests to any destination in the town of Girdwood, which has a lot of really nice restaurants, some shops, a small grocery and a surprisingly large post office. A guest can even call the shuttle driver to check when he will be returning to a particular spot. On one occasion, we called the driver to ask when he would be back at the hotel because we were headed out to dinner; he said: "I just left the hotel, but I don't have anybody on the bus, so I will come back and get you." And, he did!
The Seven Glaciers Restaurant at the top of the mountain has beautiful views and really good food (though they are not open every day). The tram to the restaurant is attached to the hotel and is wheelchair friendly. If you have a valid ski pass for the day, the tram is free. It is also free if you have lunch or dinner reservations. Otherwise, I believe the fare is $20.00.
As far as the skiing: there are four lifts at the bottom and a one mid-mountain, but they were not all open at the same time (at least they weren't when I was there). There are not a lot of runs, though, and most are very steep. In my opinion, a lot of runs they list as blue should really be black. There are almost no green runs, so this is really not a place for beginning skiers. Weekends offer night skiing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor for best views.

“Large, quiet hotel in magnificent setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Ive stayed at the Alyeska several times over the last six years. First, this hotel is the only place to stay in Girdwood. There are no other hotels. The hotel is clean modern and quiet. The rooms are of reasonable size. They have some upgrades such as towel warmers. The beds are comfortable and the views are beautiful. Also, the staff were friendly. We had sushi for dinner in the hotel. We were seated in a private room and the fish was quite nice. Service was friendly and efficient.

The Alyeska is lacking in a few areas:
There is no Wifi available in rooms. Sure there is an Ethernet cable, but that's useless with handheld devices such as iPads. An outdoor hot tub for adults would be a great addition. When we visited the pool & jacuzzi it wasn't quiet or particularly relaxing.
The Sitzmark is really in need of a major update. We went to see live music but the seating available was in some kind of addition with no view of the stage. The acoustics are also lacking.

“Hotel Alyeska”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Hotel is nice and quiet during the week when the kids from Anchorage are not around. Some parents though let their kids run free during the weekends, otherwise Quite relaxing.
During the winter there are fewer dining options since two of the three restaurants were closed. If you don't have a vehicle, you walk or talk the shuttle to the day lodge to find some decent food. Room was clean, staff helpful, nice place if not a bit pricey.

“Luxurious Resort with Superior Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My two sons and I live in the Mat Su Valley, Alaska. Both boys are avid skiers, and have been to Alyeska many times. This was our second stay at the Hotel Alyeska Resort.

The hotel sits at the base of the Alyeska Ski Resort, and thus is very convenient if you wish to ski or snowboard. The hotel, however, is well worth the visit all by itself. It has a distinctive Alaskan theme, and makes one think of a Swiss or Austrian lodge.

The main lobby is very large and cozy, with comfortable places to sit, as well as valet parking and baggage service. If you look up from the lobby, you will see a really interesting diorama of the Aurora Borealis (it actually moves...) in the sky over an arctic scene with a polar bear.

The front desk staff were extremely courteous and helpful. We did not have to wait in line, and our room was ready for us, even though it was three hours before check-in. We had purchased a ski/stay package, and my eldest son had come in that morning prior to our arrival. They allowed him to get his lift ticket several hours prior to our arrival, so he could enjoy a full day of skiing with friends.

Our room was on the fourth floor. We did not ask for a view of the mountains, as the kids were skiing until after dark anyhow. The rooms are very nice, and everything looked brand new. The bathroom was spotless, and the soap/bath amenities were of high quality, and there were enough for all of us without having to ask for more.

The beds were comfortable and had clean, modern duvet covers. We needed a roll away bed, and this was provided immediately, and we were not charged extra (even though this is listed at an extra cost). The staff member who brought it up set it up for us and offered to get us extra pillows, etc.

There were spa style bathrobes (enough for all 3 of us), with slippers as well-a nice touch. They were great for going to the pool area without needing to use the locker room area. The television was a modern flat screen with pay movies and video games, as well as a full array of satellite channels. There were two armchairs (large) by the window that were clean and comfortable. There was free bottled water in the room as well. Ice machine was near the elevator.

Starbucks coffee and Tazo Tea was provided in the room, along with Starbucks coffee mugs. There was a small refrigerator that could hold snacks and drinks. There is a safe in the closet as well.

There is a set of buttons on the night stand that turn the entry way lights on, request maid service, or post a "do not disturb". There was also a door bell. The maid service and do not disturb lights were also outside the door, so as to display this clearly (not a sign that kids running the halls could just take off).

There is a nice fitness center and locker room area near the large pool/hot tub area. They are salt water, so not so harsh on the skin. The pool is quite large for a hotel pool, and has handicapped lifts. There are many cozy lounge chairs with cushions around the pool. There is also a huge walk-in hot tub, separated from the pool area by a small wall/bench. The hot tub area overlooks the ski resort. It is more like a swimming pool than just a hot tub. The only issue we had with the pool area was the excessive number of noisy teenagers in the hot tub and splashing everyone in the pool. This was only a problem after the actual ski area closed in the evening. There is a towel attendant, but no lifeguard. There are hot showers in the pool area as well as the locker areas. There is a large dry sauna in the pool area. Very relaxing!

There are several stores and fast food/coffee shop areas on the lower level, as well as a large lounge area with a fireplace and lots of places to sit. You could walk inside the building right to the tramway to the top of the mountain.

There were a few restaurants, but we did not go there, as the kids decided they wanted to head to Anchorage (a 45 or so minute ride away) to eat. They looked very nice, though.

Overall, it was a great getaway-one we will repeat soon with the rest of the family.

Clean, updated resort with excellent customer service.
