“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

We stayed here 3 nights and used it as a base. It was a nice scenic drive, not too long to get to from Anchorage and cheaper than many places in the city, so it was worth the drive.

We did day trips to Seward and Whittier from there and then the last day drove to Denali. The place is extremely clean, comfortable and the hosts are nice and accommodating. You are asked to remove your shoes and leave them at the door, but I have read this is not uncommon in Alaska. It helps to keep the place so clean.

Everything is spelled out for you. You share a common kitchen with another room, which is fine. It was well stocked for breakfast choices, which you make, but Carol brings a loaf of fresh great tasting and great smelling bread, fruit and eggs, jellies, butter and peanut butter out every day at 7. If you want to get going earlier you can eat the cereal, oatmeal, juice, yogurt, milk, tea and coffee.

You have a nice clean private bath with fresh towels. The large two-person sink is right outside the bathroom.

I liked the privacy you were given. The hosts were not intrusive. You had the best of both worlds. It had the privacy you get at a hotel, but it was still like being at a home.
I don't always like bed and breakfasts because I often get up and tour or leave early, which sometimes is before "breakfast." Also, sometimes I want more privacy than the place/hosts give. This was the perfect combination. I would definitely stay here again.

“A very clean, enjoyable, and modern B & B”

We spent two nights at Bud and Carol’s B & B. We used this B & B as our home base for the Phillip’s 26 Glacier Cruise out of Whittier. We had the larger of their two rooms, the Alberg Room which had a queen bed and a single twin for our grandson.
The place was spotless. Apparently they designed and built their home as a B & B as they live upstairs.
The two rooms share a large kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, oven, and dishwasher. Bud and Carol are a very pleasant couple. And if skiing is your game, talk with Bud about his Senior Skiing accomplishments.
Our bedroom had three screened windows. The small window by the sink just had a thin Venetian blind that did practically nothing to keep out the incessant Alaska sunlight. At this time of the year, the sun sets about midnight. The other windows had heavy blinds that fitted the inside window frames but the sunlight was very intense around all the edges. It literally glowed. We wished that the windows had been totally covered beyond the frames to really darken the room. The window by the sink needs the same treatment. Luckily, we all had our eye blinders.
Breakfast consisted of hardboiled eggs, cheese, cereals, instant oatmeal, orange juice, coffee and a single loaf of homemade warm bread. All these items are left for the guests and it is self-service. We enjoyed having this kitchen as we could fix a cup of tea or coffee any time of day and we brought in dinner one night and had it at the table.
We could easily hear the arrival of the other room’s occupants and since our room was right next to the kitchen, it would be possible to hear people talking in the kitchen.
Bottom line---if money isn’t a big problem, we would recommend renting out both rooms and thus really providing total privacy. This would also be a great place to share with another couple who like to ski as the ski area is very close by.

We have addressed the guests' concerns regarding the window coverings. We changed out the venetian blinds in the vanity area. In addition the incoming sunshine has been diverted and blocked out by custom made window frames. Our guests rave about how well they can sleep in a blackout room.

“Great Place to Stay”

We spent July 9, 2008 at Bud and Carol's B & B. We had been to Whittier on a day cruise on Prince William Sound and drove to Bud and Carol's afterwards. It is an easy and pleasant drive to Girdwood from Whittier. Their nightly rates are very reasonable, much less than the motels in Anchorage. The bedroom had a private bath, is very modern and the bed was quite comfortable. It has a common living/kitchen/dining area that is shared with other guests. The refrigerator has milk, juices, cheese, butter and jelly. In the morning Carol had brought in delicious homemade bread. We met Carol the next morning and talked with her for awhile. She is a gracious hostess. We did not get to meet Bud, as we had to leave early for Denali. If we go back to Alaska, we will definitely stay there. Be sure to check their Web Site for additional information and photos. Mike and Linda

“Great Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2007

Bud and Carol's tied for our favorite place to stay on our trip to Alaska this summer. Super clean with a great view, our room had a queen bed, futon, double closet, dressing area and bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. Carol has gone to great pains to include many amenities. Upon entering the no smoking property, for which we were very grateful, guests are requested to remove their shoes. This is not an unreasonable request since this would be the only way to keep the place as spotless as it is given that it is in a ski area and, in my experience, it also rains a lot! Besides, we take our shoes off at home, so I am used to this.

In the common living/kitchen/dining area, there is a sofa, dining table and chairs and a fridge stocked with milk, juices, cheese, butter and jelly. Bright and early each morning, Carol delivers a delicous loaf of homemade bread with hard boiled eggs, more variety of cheeses and jellies.

We did not have the opportunity to meet Bud, but Carol is very nice and very anxious to help you have a wonderful stay.

We definitely would stay here again.
