“Very cozy little place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2008

Ruth Ann's is a pleasant hotel with a comfortable bed, hot water, cable TV, and available wireless internet (through a local ISP). As lodging off the road system in Alaska goes, this place is practically paradise. Some of the fixtures could use replacing, and the bath towels are comically small; the desk and chair in the room were chosen because they're quaint, not practical or particularly comfy. That said, though, it was comfortable and clean, for not a lot of money.

  • Liked — Comfortable and quaint
  • Disliked — Tiny bath towels and rust damaged sink

“Honeymoon Suite is to die for!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2008

The honeymoon suite had a walk through double shower with a hot tub. The room was gorgeous, clean and inviting. It had a kitchen that had all the amneties. I could not have asked for a better place to spend the night. Of course to get this fabulous room you must book ahead for it.
Yes Craig is small...yet it's that charming out in the bush way charming. If you want Chicago, you should go there. This is ALASKA. Alaska is special. I lived on this island 5 years. I had more friends, more good experiences than a lifetime spent down south. If it weren't for the winters I'd still be there. I truly miss many folks there. I had opportunites I'll never have down here in the civilized part of the world I live in now.
I also spent a night at a B&B out at Whales Pass that is probably not for everybody...but not everybody gets to visit or live in Alaska.
People in Alaska are more self reliant than other places. Not so
spoiled as we are in the bottom 48.
Alaska is where memories are made. Alaska is special and so is Ruth Ann's. I had many a good meal there and I'll never forget the time I got to stay in that special room.
Craig is full of special places, people and destinations. It's not for the faint of heart, possibly...so don't go. BUt it you don't, you are missing something really special that no other place compares too..
I could go on,because I truly loved Alaska and the people. Go and see for yourself. Don't take your narrow mindedness
though or you'll lose the sight to see the magnificence.

“Ruth Ann's”

As was said in the 2005 review - there's not much choice in Craig. Outside of fishing and hunting season Craig is very small, not much goes on. Ruth Ann's restaurant has two sections, the grille and the upscale dining area. The difference is sandwiches versus meals. We definately enjoyed our meal - the halibut was excellant, and the water view is great.
The hotel is up the hill - and the first impression is not much, almost a boarding house. But the rooms are very nice, clean, and quiet. The shower is very good, but towels are very low end. For a night, or two, one could do a lot worse.

“Nice, but not what we expected”

Booked Ruth Ann's from the web. The picture on the web is of Ruth Ann's Restaurant a cute gingerbread style building right on the waterfront. We were disappointed to find our accommodations were not in that building, but a building a short walk down the street and not on the water. The building was nothing to look at, but the rooms were cute and clean and did have a refrigerator. After check in, there was no contact with staff whatsoever - not big on customer service. The price was high, but there's not much for accommodations in Craig. If I return, I plan to stay at the Blue Herron which is a small 3 bedroom home located right on the harbor.
