“Third time to visit; we'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

For three years in a row, I have stayed here with three other adults and one child the night before we head out on a winter cabin trip. The room includes three beds situated in little coves, so you have a bit of privacy. Also, it is economical to be able to stay at a place that can accommodate a small group like ours. We had ample space for all of our gear and food--and we had a lot of stuff. The beds were comfy, the room was clean, and the decor is modern. Its a motel-style place so we can park our cars right outside our room, convenient when you have a lot of stuff to schlep.

The restaurant isn't open 7 days a week in the winter, but when it is, we eat dinner there the night we arrive and breakfast before we head out. Some in our group eat there after we return from our cabin trip. It's the sort of restaurant with real, good fries and hearty hamburgers as well as a filling clam chowder that comes in its own bread bowl.

We always enjoy our stay here and have no complaints. We will be back again next December! Please note: One of our group members left an item in her room, and the folks at Sunrise Inn kindly mailed it to her.

“Wonderful surprise in Cooper Landing, AK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

We got stuck in a blizzard while traveling between Anchorage & Kenai recently. It was 9:30pm and we could not travel any farther than Cooper Landing. We were afraid we would not find a place at such a late time that would take us in the off-season. We stopped at Wildman's store and the cashier there called the owner of the Sunrise Inn. The owner said she was officially closed for the evening but would be happy to have the on-site manager meet us and give us a room for the night. The on-site manager met us a few minutes later in the parking lot. He was very friendly and was happy to give us a room for the night.

The room was cozy, with two double beds, a desk, fridge, microwave, cable TV, Toyo stove for heat and a really nicely renovated bathroom. We were very please with the accomodations. The room was clean, the beds comfortable and the bathroom was great!

We have also eaten in the restaurant. They make really good burgers, sandwiches and grilled cheese. Give it a try.

“Satisfactory - nothing fancy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Needed a place to stay enroute from Denali to Seward, so were looking for simple sleeping accommodations for the night. Weren't sure what to expect based on other reviews, and was beginning to learn that standards for "stars" were a little lower than typical areas in the lower 48 and prices generally much higher.

Got there early evening (I think -- hard to tell cause it stays light so late) to find the "office" unused but a sign to check in at the bar/restaurant. The bartender was very pleasant, did the usual check-in routine. It was just a little strange to be checking in while locals were chatting it up over drinks right next to us.

Room was basic, relatively clean, though cramped. Bath was nicely done, but the only heat came through a grill over a hole in the wall to the next room where the heater was. Not sure I'd want to stay here in the winter. The heater seemed to be an upscale version of a Kerosun type heater, and though I got it to work I'm not really sure what I did - the controls weren't intuitive and no instructions.

Contrary to another review here, when we went back to the bar for a drink the bartender and locals were quite friendly and helpful - explaining to us newbies why the salmon upstream were red and the meat inedible and where to go to watch them.

Breakfast in the restaurant was also not bad, though I wouldn't call it the best on the Kenai. I agree with another poster about the coffee, but not due to cost, it just wasn't all that good, though I generally prefer bolder style roasts.

All in all, OK by Alaska high season standards.

“Don't buy the coffee!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

That's right people, don't buy the coffee for it is more expensive than the gasoline they sell. My girlfriend and I stopped by their cafe to have our Stanley thermous filled and was shocked at the $9.00 price tag that they charged us. My girlfriend went inside the cafe to ask if the price was a mistake, and the owner stated "you should go somewere else, were the coffee is cheaper". Gasolione in Cooper Landing is around $4.22 Per Gallon, the Stanley Thermous is about a quart in size. If I purchased a gallon of coffee, it would cost us $36.00. The owner is not only arrogant and ignorant but is a very greedy and selfish business woman. I predict that her business won't last more than two more seasons. I will never spend my hard earned money in her facility again.

“Good food !”

We didn't stay at the Inn, but enjoyed the food enough to return for a second meal while staying in Cooper Landing.
