“An Amazing Experience!”

This is a must do on your trip to French Polynesia. Kim, Walter, and Daisy are by far the nicest people in French Polynesia! The resorts in FP could care less about you, but at the Motu Mahare they share with you the experience of living on an island paradise. We tasted bread fruit from the campfire, and fresh coconut milk, fishing in the lagoon etc. Although it rained the entire four days that we were there, it was still one of the best experiences of our honeymoon. After exploring Huahine I can say hands down this is the only place to stay! If you are the type of person who is able to 'rough' it a little bit in order to have a once in a life time experience than this is for you. To us it was hardly roughing it, Kim has the place decorated beautifully with gorgeous flowers everywhere, the motu is spectacular! They take you by the grocery on the way out to the motu and you can purchase what you need to cook on the island. Definitely bring bug spray, luckily they also provided mosquito coils that worked great as well. I cannot say enough good things about this place, it deserves all these great reviews. And we will definitely stay again if ever in FP, only next time, in the dry season.

“idyllic, authentic stay on your private island”

As part of a ten day honeymoon in French Polynesia, my wife and I spent two nights at Kim, Walter & Daisy's slice of paradise on Motu Mahare. By now, most of FP is very commercialized and overrun with tourists (like us); and the overwater bungalows are somewhat artificial. But this hotel gives you a true escape from all the commercialism. You have a very well decorated (small) bungalow, with another bungalow with your private bathroom, and a shared, and well-stocked kitchen. It's quite obvious that the hosts have put tons of thought into decorating and laying out the grounds, as they are naturally beautiful. When we were on the motu, the hotel was at maximum capacity - by which I mean there was one other couple there. This means you have tons of privacy. Pretty much any time you want, you can have an entire beach (either lagoon side or ocean side) to your self. The hotel provides all the kayaking equipment you need; and what else do you need to enjoy paradise.

But what really makes the place is the hospitality of the hosts. Kim & Walter (and their little daughter Daisy) were wonderful - they took us into town to enjoy the festivities surrounding the Hawaiki Va'a, and made coconut milk with us together in the evening, which we used to make a delicious shrimp noodle concoction. They were always there with ideas on things to do; and Kim even welcomed us back from a kayaking trip with coconut water beautifully presented in a coconut!

Only one word of caution though: the mosquitos are everywhere, so be sure to bring your repellent. We tried to use the hammock near the ocean-side beach but were eaten alive within a minute or two. We saw the other couple use the smoke repellent underneath the hammock, and probably should have tried that. But still, be sure to bring your repellent.

Room Tip: there are only two rooms, and I think they are the same.

“5 days at Paridise in French Polynesia”

We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights at this beautiful place. Kim and Walter are super nice couple that runs this place. We missed the place, missed them and of course their little cute daughter, Daisy. After many year living in Canada, I cannot stand the strong sun for long but It was so beautiful and I did enjoy it. Walter was so nice to give us a fish and we finish it quick :) I was so shy I should ask for more and I know they won't say "No". Only one thing, the bed is a bit short since we are tall other than that It was superb. One of the greatest host that we've ever met. Will come back soon

“Great motu lifestyle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

This is a place where you can really feel the motu way of life. It takes some guts from Walter and Kim to have this operation running only by themselves, plus their 3-year old girl. They have put together a nice place to relax and enjoy. A great plus is that the property faces the seaside and also the lagoon side so you can explore both in any way you want (snorkeling, by kayak or so). There are only two issues: one is mosquitoes, of course, but that is a general Huahine problem. The other is that you must cook your food at all times, but the kitchen setting is quite nice and inviting. The place, overall, is very calm and a great motu experience. Not recommended for the hyperactive, but of course you can do something different everyday on the main island if you want: lagoon tour by boat, go around the island by rental car, go horse riding, etc, etc. And those crabs everywhere running for their holes are so funny..
