“Had potential”

Overall this stay was a disappointment. The pools were beautiful and the bar within the larger pool had an excellent bartender. The concierge, specifically Josiane, was very helpful. She guided us towards amazing excursions and stores outside the resort that only sold items made on the islands. On the flip side, the food was expensive and limiting. We had one restaurant available to us for lunch and dinner during out visit, and the small menu remained the same for both meals. The food was good, but roughly $21 USD for an ordinary burger or caesar salad was exorbitant. The room was dusty and there was a slight residue of mold in the shower. The staff (other than the bartender and concierge) were more inclined to socialize amongst themselves than help their guests. I believe our visit was during the slow season but nevertheless, for the price, my expectations were high. If you do visit this resort, be sure to stop and pick up snacks from a grocery store.

Ia Orana from Moorea,

Thank you for your comments.

It is with sadness that I read of some of your disappointments.

Due to its isolation French Polynesia remains an expensive destination but I assure you that in this environment the hotels on Moorea provide a very good quality for price compared to their competitors.

Beginning of the year is indeed the low season and this is why we strategically decide to regrouped our two restaurants into a single location for dinner. However, both the casual and fine dining menus are offered to each guest being seated and the pool bar also remains a third option.

As you must have witnessed during your stay, the Polynesian population is very cheerful and playful. For this reason it is true that they are often chatting with one another, and very often with guests also seeking to have a short, informal chat. Whilst this should not impede on the service provided, I also believe it highly contributes to the happy and relaxed atmosphere so many visitors praise of French Polynesia.

Once again I would like to thank you for your feedback.

Sincerely

“BEAUTIFUL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The resort was beautiful along with the Island. The staff always smiling and helpful. The pool was awesome. The ocean was beautiful, warm and full of fish. The grounds were groomed to perfection. What a beautiful experience!

Room Tip: Over the water...do it!

“Lovely place to vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Intercontinental. The concierge staff was AMAZING!! super helpful and went above and beyond. The grounds are so beautiful. we really enjoyed our beach bungalow and the room and bathroom was beautiful. My favorite part, the super huge bath sheet towels! The staff at the front desk and restaurant/ bar were very friendly, but on Tahiti time... Our check in was great but took a while. However, we enjoyed our complimentary tropical juice we were given and enjoyed the surroundings. Be prepared for a bit slower service, but as I said friendly service. For lunch, we went accross the road from the resort to a little mini mart that had fresh bread and groceries and just brought it back to our room so that lunch was much cheaper then on the resort. We also purchased beer and liquor from that store too for in room use as it was much less expensive.
We enjoyed the Dolphin adventure based out of the front, very informational. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Aquablue adventure (heavy old fashioned sea helmuts to use instead of scuba diving.. this way you can go down and see the sting rays under the water with an airline to the top..). That was fantastic and very intimate as the group was just my husband, myself, and the two instructors.
We would very happily recommend this resort to anyone, as it is beautiful and very enjoyable. Hope we can save up to go back again someday!

Room Tip: had a fantastic room 402 - beach bungalow, just second from the bridge by the lagoon. Perfect spot a...

“Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Dear travellers, and especially honeymooners, be careful to avoid this hotel at all costs.
I'll be brief and tell you the facts, so that you don't get bored but get the most out of this.
We stayed at the hotel on our honeymoon for four nights. On our last day there, we purchased internet connection to contact our families. The reception asked if we wanted to borrow a PC or if we had ours and we answered that we had ours. When we went to dinner the same day, the dinner lasted longer than usual and at the end a guy from the hotel told us that someone had broken into our room. What did he take? Among other items of lesser importance, a small suitcase, closed with a strong lock contatining our laptop.
We were not the only ones that night, two other couples suffered the same ordeal that night and guess what? They were all at dinner, during different times, and their bungalows were not even close to ours. I wonder who gave the thief a hint....probably the same guys who did not even offered 1 EURO in reimbursement or excuses for what happened (notwithstanding the fact that, as we were to discover afterwards, they surely did get some money from their insurance company for the damaging of their hotel property). Travelers, beware!

“Decent place. Cheaper option. Hilton is better. Spend your money in Bora Bora for overwater Bungalow”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The rooms are nice. We had a beech bungalow and it was clean, spacious, about what we expected.

It’s a little scary walking back to the room at night as there are no lights down the pathway and plenty of creatures walking around. There are plenty of geckos and crabs walking around the property so you want to be able to look where you are walking.

The concierge staff is amazing! Yumi and Josiane are the friendliest and most helpful concierge staff we have ever had. They truly go out of there way to please their customers. My husband and I can’t say enough about them. We visited them daily and many times throughout the day. There was always a smile on their faces and the willingness to please us. One day, we took a safari tour and casually asked the other couples on the tour with us what they paid. To our surprise, they paid a lot less than us. I mentioned it to the Reception manager (who is great) and she kindly apologized and explained the prices are negotiated and contracted with the tour company. She was concerned that another hotel had a better price and immediately asked the concierge staff to follow-up on it. The next day, Yumi approached us and explained how she called the safari tour company and their story sounded suspicious. Both Yumi and the Reception Manager felt terrible about this and they adjusted our tour price to what the other couple’s on the tour paid. Very very kind of them to adjust it considering it was not their problem and fault. Our experience with the concierge staff was very pleasant - they hugged us goodbye the day my husband and I checked out.

Breakfast buffet is great. They have a good setup and options. We got the meal plan so it worked out otherwise, it’s a little pricey for breakfast. The staff in the restaurant is also very friendly and happy.

We loved he Dolphin center and the turtle lagoon. It’s nice to have both of these on the property. We visited with them daily.

There is a market conveniently located across from the hotel. We got snacks and drinks from here since things at the hotel can be expensive. The alcoholic beverages at the hotel are a little too expensive for a simple drink that’s not even that good.

We had a couple of bad experiences here with the staff and we still can’t seem to understand it:

We decided to take advantage of the free kayak rental from the hotel. We approached the kayak rental place and staff member was rude. We mentioned that we were interested in renting the kayak. I’m not sure what his problem was but he huffed, threw the clipboard and had such a bad attitude toward us. My husband and I looked at each other because we just could not understand. He asked my husband for his shoe size and he replied large. He said, okay but what size there are so many large sizes and he continued to be a jerk to us so my husband said something to him and asked if he was going to continue to be inappropriate. And that just made him more pissed and he caused a seen. The staff member said everyone else was happy with his service and we were the only ones with a problem. Huh? Again, it was very strange. After a little argument he apologized to us – which was unexpected but very appreciated as we did not do anything to upset him. Again, still can’t understand why he was like that toward us.

My husband and I were on our honeymoon. We decided to get a drink from the bar by the pool. As we were waiting for the drink, we were just hugging near the bar. A waitress basically walked into us and split my husband and I up. There was no one else around us or anything in the way that prevented her from walked around us. In fact, there was plenty of space for her to walk around us. But she made us split up and move. She waited at the bar for her drink order. Purposely we decided to hug again and stand in the same area. Again, there was plenty of space around us as she was leaving but said “excuse me” with an attitude and made us move AGAIN! I wish I took her name so I could have told the manager about it.

Of the other hotels on island, this was not the nicest, probably cheaper. Everyone there told us the Hilton was nicer. The overwater Bungalows were half over water, and half on land. If going to Bora Bora, better, to save money on this island, and get a nicer overwater place in Bora Bora. Water there is amazing.

Overall the resort is nice. If the staff was as great as the concierge staff, we’d give this hotel a higher rating. There certainly can be some improvements to the lobby area and the lighting. More food options would be great too. We’d like to see more vegeterian and chicken options.

Ia Orana from Moorea,

First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. It is with the help of comments like yours that we are able to further improve our service and facilities.

Moorea is indeed a beautiful island and I am happy that you decided to allocate some time to explore all its treasures. As you mention, we work in close collaboration with various tour companies and we were truly shocked to hear of the price discrepancy between you and clients of another hotel. Rest assured this was an exception and is not at all a common practice in Moorea. Thank you for bringing it to our attention as we were able to take the necessary actions to ensure this does not happen again.

I would also like to thank you for your understanding that Tahiti is a remote destination and therefore a costly destination. In these conditions, the hotels on Moorea provide a very good quality for price.

Finally, I will pass your comments along to the concierge and restaurant staff. Polynesians are renowned for their genuine friendliness and they take their job to the heart. It will therefore make them happy to see that they contributed to the success of your holiday. Regarding the water sports attendant and bar waitress, rest assured that action has been taken as we do not tolerate such behaviour. Once again, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I hope you have had a safe trip back and that your memories of Polynesia will stay with you for a long time.

It would be a pleasure to see you again one day!

Kind regards,
