I just got back from vacation in a little place called Bettles, Alaska where I stayed with the wonderful folks at the Spirit Lights Lodge. Bettles is located just above the arctic circle near the edge of the Brooks Range and is rumored to be one of the best places in the world to view the northern lights. (I was there for three nights and saw the aurora every night!)

Staying at the Spirit Lights Lodge is by far the most wonderful vacation experience I've had. I went snowmachining (snowmobiling), snowshoeing, dogsledding and, most importantly, I saw the northern lights! The locals stopped by everyday and were always willing to offer a good story. I felt more like a visiting friend than a paying guest!

The lodge was very well kept, the food was excellent and the staff was wonderful! They even helped me plan my trip by booking my hotel in Fairbanks and arranging my flight up to Bettles.

I would definitely visit the Spirit Lights Lodge again!
