“Home away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2009

The Guesthouse is a very large, really cool home located in the heart of Escazu. It's back away from the main road and buffered by a huge beautiful garden. My son and I loved swinging on the outdoor hammocks and walking around the grounds. We even got to experience an earthquake while there, though not part of the package. Vicki is an amazing hostess. She's always wiling to help with whatever happens to be falling on your plate at the moment. She made us feel so welcome and at ease in her home and really just a part of the family. Josh Voelks, her helper, is a lovely person and just added to the nice vibe. We had a lot on our plate and it was very nice to come 'home' to a group of people who cared.
Would definately recommend this place to all our friends and family.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2008

I am soooo late in writing my review but since a stay is in the future I just had to get in my two cents worth. Let's begin with the most important aspect of our stay...Vicki, who operates the guesthouse, is by far one of the most gracious people I have ever met. She is extremely knowledgeable about the area and has a network of contacts for drivers, restaurants, tours, etc. that is unmatched. We were there for my son to have dental work and I chose the Fountains Guesthouse after looking at several other places. The house is very clean, safe, spacious, fun, and funky! We were so relaxed and slept so well on very comfortable beds. The fountains in the rooms were very soothing I might add. I will return again and again.

“Low key,helpfull and (good) funky”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2008

I stayed at Fountain GH in April. I had to be in San Jose for a week of medical and dental work. This well run and helpful GH was excellent for my needs and was very affordable compared to other options. The low key atmosphere, large house(with only a few rooms) and spacious grounds, made it a fine place to relax between medical visits . If you have alternative health needs Vicki seems to have many contacts in that community.Close to CIMA hospital(best private hospital in Costa Rica) and convenient to many doctors/dentists offices, Fountains has a hard to find quality and location at a great price for San Jose.. The proprietress VIcki was extremely helpful with transportation arrangements and general advice based on her knowledge and her many contacts. If you need a relaxed place to stay in Escazu, especially if you must attend to medical needs and visits, this is a great place.Vicki is as helpful as she is hyper, and that 's a good thing if you need the inside scoop on the basics of Escazu and what it offers as a Costa Rican hub or a place to attend to other needs.

“A life changing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2008

Where does one begin to write a review when a person and place has such a huge affect on ones life? I first met Vicki through a yahoo group we both belong to. To go into all the individual details of the incredibly positive impact she had on my life on a personal and spiritual level would end up being a novel. If you are going to Costa Rica and you need a place to stay where you will have access to all the information you could possibly need to have the vacation of a lifetime then stay at The Fountains Guesthouse!! It is a peaceful, tranquil, oasis in the best urban area of the country and Vicki will help you find everything you need to make sure your experience at her place and in Costa Rica will be something you remember for a lifetime and you will want to return to experience many more times. I've stayed there at least 4 times and can't wait to go again. Thanks for everything Vicki!! You're the best!!

“Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2007

What a great place to stay! It was like having my own personal home away from home. This place truly gives meaning to the saying "mi casa es su casa!"

The owner (Vicki) nmet us as we pulled in the drive. She even helped us with our luggage and took us to our room. Without even asking, we had been upgraded to a beautiful suite.

The room was large and done in tastefully bright colors. There were picture windows on two walls that opened onto the garden. There were closets and an intimate table and chairs; and best of all, as the name suggests, there was even a fountain in our room. I kept the fountain on at night and slept like a log listening to the flowing water. It was wonderful!

The king-sized bed came with pillows for all tastes (I like mine very soft, and my hubby likes one more on the firm side). The mattress was the most comfortable I've ever slept on (Vicki said it was a memory mattress). The quilt was so soft and fluffy. It was great to cuddle up in it at night!

The bathroom was also large. Night lights helped us see without turning on bright lights at night. There was only a shower in this bathroom (that's perfect for us!), but some of the bathrooms came with a tub, too. There were plenty of clean fresh-smelling soft towels for us to use. And there was even a bidet! The shower was equipped with liquid soap shampoo and condiitoner.

We woke up in the morning to the sounds of birds chirping in the garden. The included continental breakfast was ready for us even though we're very early risers. Bowls and silverware were set out for us. We made our own coffee in the French press since "how strong you want your coffee is so individual!". If we had wanted tea, there was a huge variety of that to choose from too. We had pitchers of orange juice, green tea, and jamaica available to quench our thirst if we had so desired. There was also natural granola and several types of yogurt for us to enjoy.

We ate our breakfast (and our take-home meals) in a patio surrounded by sounds of the nearby creek, and more fountains.

And to make this package complete, everything in the house was VERY clean and the price was VERY affordable.

We were not on vacation. We were there for surgery at Cima, a large excellent private hospital. It was only a 10-minute drive from the guesthouse. And, what a great place to be to recover afterward.

BUT, if we had been on vacation, this is a perfect place to be for daily trips to most of the national parks, volcanoes, the beaches, etc. Vicki has tourguides and taxi drivers at her disposal that handle any guided tours that you may want. Next time, we'll do that!

And I didn't worry about missing my emails, since there's high-speed wireless access there.

Also, every type of food imaginable was in a 20-block radius. PLENTY were in walking distance.

It was hard for me to believe that we were in the middle of a large city. This place was truly a paradise. We'll definitely come back again and highly recommend it to anyone coming to Costa Rica.
