Most the staff at Casa Conde are welcoming. Its not until you find you need to exchange dollars for Colones, have a guest, or buy drinks at the bar that things become a surprise $3.50 a beer. Ok I guess? First I will say that the meals in the dinning area and waiters are great.I did not see a frown from the waiters when I did not tip him. But I made sure to come back and give them something the next day. I will tell it as is it is and not pull punches here. Haggling with taxi drivers to get around town can be a burn. Before entering a cab remember to say" ponga la maria por favor" (start the meter please) or you can get caught paying a lot more than expected.Next sometimes there is money to exchange but most times not and it will cost 10% over the amount for their good will to guests to acquire it. Next The add for the rooms say tempurpedic matress beds don't count on it. Next the game player they promised is not there for the kids. The couch cushions in the living area have shruck so that is an eye sore. Most office help is gradifyngly a breath of fresh air. but beware of the night desk clerk and security guards. While security is a must in that side of the city it is unlikely that my girl friend was going to cause them any trouble but if you are not aware of the idea of hard core security then becarefull. because this poor Tico friend of mind got an ear full. They degraded her in front of me until she was in tears. I had no idea what they were saying so could not interject. But when it was over this church going young lady was predisposed to some very unsavory like language. I took this up later with the morning management staff without any reprimands to the staff members that caused this problem. I will not expound on the incident but suffice to say that you will stay at your own risk. For a hotel that is struggling to become a 5 star hotel rated establishment they are failing badly. I will admit that I have stayed at only a few hotels in my 3 month stay here in Costa Rica but this was a real downer. The breakfast was not free as the ad says either.The beds were comfortable regardless of the make. air conditioning was good. It gets warm in the dry season here. The TV channels were many in North American language availability. There are always some people that can make your stay worth while. I did find a few here that were very friendly but without them this hotel would be much less worth any money. The cost is appropriate for this part of San Jose. If it were not for a few staff members and some management this could have been very enjoyable despite the non acquired amenities promised from the ad. Sorry "Casa Cash Pit" you failed the expat test! For all the people who were humane I applaud you! Time to get rid of those undesirables that hurt your business. Do it quick? I took a group of 11 persons there in late September and had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was very good and the facilities were great when we chose to visit the nearby Walmart Supermarket and purchase food fto prepare our own meals as a group.
Staff was very friendly and most could communicate in English or were quick to find another who could.

Okay, as the cabbie was driving into the neighborhood (at night), we were like, where's the La Policia? YIKES!!! It looked all but safe. Once we drove up into what seemed to be a compound, it kinda looked like apartment buildings. The pool inside was amazing. You can actually dine around it. The front desk girl was very nice and helpful. We had a 2 bedroom suite. It was old, musty and look like my grandmother's, grandmother lived there. It also felt like we had walked into the Bates Motel. It was not what we were expecting, especially, considering the star rating it had. It was a nice size, but that was about it. We stayed there approximately 1.5 hours...the time it took for us to locate another hotel.

Last time I prepay for a hotel that I do not know. Could not find anyone at Hotel.
