Less than one day into my stay, I returned to my room to find my "safe" had been opened and money was missing. My colleague, staying in another room, found the same had happened to him. Worst of all, the hotel manager declared that this was "not my problem." perhaps I should have known, safes with a key, not a combo lock, are a risky proposition. I left immediately (hundreds of dollars missing) for the intercontinental. A MUCH better hotel for business travel to San Jose.

I stayed at the parque del lago between Oct 28 and Nov 2nd.
The Good; the hotel is very clean, the rooms are cleaned thoroughly every day. The security in the area is good, there are two gates to the property that are locked after 10pm and there are security guards around the clock. Most of the staff are friendly and try to go out of their way to make you feel at home.

The not so good: the beds were terrible. They are too hard ( its like sleeping on the floor!!!) sleeping was almost impossible and the pillows were just as bad. I twisted and turned night after night trying to get some comfort without a solution.

The restaurant is not that great.The breakfast selection is very limited and so monotonous. The fruits are some chunks of watermelons, pine apples and papaya daily. And oh if you cannot make it to breakfast by 8am you are on your own. The lunch and dinner menu is not great either. The good news is that there is a great Brazilian restaurant down the road that is very nice.

Then like every where else in costa rica, check your bill thoroughly. I was not so pleased to see that my credit card had been billed a different amount for accommodation to what their 'invoice' showed.

If you like nite life this hotel is far away from decent bars, of course you would need to catch a taxi to the other side of the town for entertainment.

Lucky we found this hotel! We weren't satisfied at the first hotel we stayed in upon arrival to San Jose, so we took our chances and walked in to Hotel Parque Del Lago and got a room for our departure night. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They gave us walking directions to downtown and nearby restaurants. We ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant and really enjoyed ourselves. In the morning, we took advantage of the free breakfast (which was great!) and we walked across the street to the park along the lake. Very pretty. The other couple we were traveling with stayed in a standard room. It was small but worked out perfectly for one night. We stayed in a suite room which had much more space, a bar, and a sofa. I will definitely stay at Hotel Parque Del Lago next time I visit Costa Rica.

Very nice and well located in puerto viejo. The bar and restaurant are good and the staff useful and friendly. I should return to this hotel if i am back in Costa rica.
