“Nice hotel in San Jose downtown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

I have stayed here several times and none of those Ihave had such an awful experience as I read on the other reviews. The staff is always friendly, the food is good, even I feel theres little choice on the menu. The rooms are clean, there is hot water, several channels on the TV, the beds confortable. The breakfast is nice. It is going under re-modeling process, so they have lowered prices, for the inconveniance.

“It could always be worse but,,,”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

My boyfriend and i needed a place to crash as we had our flights in San Jose but actually vacationed in coco beach. We thought for a night this hotel would be alright. We were mistaken. The rooms were not in terrible condition for an old hotel, however other problems are the cause for the poor review. This place is mid renovation, with horrible food, I mean stale and rotten food that made our stomach's turn, and very strange shady atmosphere. We made peace with the fat that our bed was a hard box with old sheets on top, we even forgave the bed sheet that was too small for both of us to use., the air-conditioning that did not make the room any cooler, the fact that they forgot to give us soap, the fact that the coffee maker was not washed, possibly ever so when you boil water in it, without even filtering it, tasted like crap, that we can forgive, but when we went to eat at the restaurant that was a bad experience. The soup we ordered was rotten. We had asparagus cream clam soup or something like it, they gave us no clams, but one mussel from world war two. It had boils on it. It was so preserved that we thought our ,mouths would outlive us. The waiter forgot to bring us water, the forks were covered with crap, it was not pretty. We thought everyone makes mistakes. We ordered a second dish, something that was hard to mess up, pasta with cheese and basil. The pasta was yellow and hard, the cheese expired sometime last decade and one bite of it truly made you want to spit it out on the table. When we ordered the food someone laughed in the kitchen, as if they just did not expect to have any orders, we should have realized, that there was no one at the restaurant, and now we know why. The cereal they gave us for breakfast was just as old as the pasta. This may seem like a harsh review, but had we not been almost poisoned maybe I would have kinder words. I was not expecting luxury, but the most minimal expectations have not been met like
having drinkable water. No offense to anyone who works there, a job is a job and nothing personal, to anyone traveling to San Jose, try to stay somewhere else, or bring your own food. Sorry but this place is just awful.

“Could be worse”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2010

Stayed here for two nights in March (once at the beginning of our trip and once at the end). Hotel is dated but relatively clean. Staff were helpful. The doors to the rooms did not appear to be overly secure, making the room easy to break into.

The surrounding area isn't great as North-East of the hotel is sketchy. There is a however a great grocery store close by and it is not far from the airport.

Wouldn't recommend for an extended stay.

“Ok hotel for a short stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2010

Stayed at this hotel at the beginning and end of a group tour. First room was on the first floor, very basic and dark, no A/C, 2 twin beds. Second room was on the second floor, much better, one big bed, much more natural light and A/C but was not needed.
Located near Parque La Sabana, so not in the center of downtown, but a short taxi ride away. Very good peruvian restaurant (Macchu Pichu) nearby and SodaTapia also nearby for some costarican fastfood with a terrace to est outside.
So would not stay here more than a couple of nights, but ok to start and end your trip in costa Rica!

“would avoid staying here again at all costs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

i did not like this hotel at all! we went to costa rica as part of a tour and stayed here our first and last night. they stuck us on the 3rd floor, which was very dark and there was no elevator. it seemed the hotel was under construction, but it still didnt justify the poor lighting. the beds seemed really old since they were not sturdy.....you would sit and sink. the bathroom was also a disappointment since it looked very old. my friends and i stayed at different hotels during our stay throughout costa rica, and this was the one we most disliked. hopefully, their renovations pull through.
