“Comfortable room but a bit noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed here for one night at the beginning of our holiday and one night at the end. The room was nicely furnished and spacious. The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding. Unfortunately it was a bit noisy as the rooms are designed around an open atrium so live music and conversation from the bar area is a nuisance. We left very early before breakfast on each of the days so I cannot comment on that. However we did eat in the restaurant one night. The greeter was pushing a special offer for $35 (with 10 dollars off if you paid by credit card). This seemed a little strange so we just picked a main course from the a la carte. The food was good. All the staff at the front desk and in the shop were very pleasant and helpful. I don't think this hotel quite merits a rating of 'very good', but is an 'average plus'. I think it is more suited to business customers than to tourists as it does lack character and I am not a fan of the atrium design.

“better than it was”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I would never pay more than the $150 I paid and then of course internet is $10 per day.

The hotel just has a poor layout, if you use the parking lot, you need to carry your luggage up stairs, just not user friendly.

The Japanese restaurant in atrium is perfectly awful.

The noise from traffic sounds off early from highway in front.

“Great Accomodations, Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We arrived late at night, only stayed at the hotel for a total of 10 hours at the beginning of a 16 day trip. I chose this hotel because of it's location, close to the airport and close to the highway to head down to Manuel Antonio. It was a short ride from the airport, the hotel shuttle was clean and the driver was very nice. The front desk staff were very friendly, the room was clean, bed was comfortable and the breakfast buffet was very good! I would stay here again and recommend it to friends/family.

“Clean rooms, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Just stayed here again last month. Very friendly and helpful staff, except at the bar downstairs sometimes. They can be slow at the bar. However everywhere else the staff is super nice and courteous. The breakfast is very good. I'm not a coffee drinker but I'm told its pretty good there in the morning next to the pool.

It can be a little noisy in the hotel at times though. Sometimes they have special events downstairs on the first level. Because of an open airspace in the center of the hotel sound can travel very well even to the upper floors. There was some type of band playing there in early December. I was on one of the higher floors, if not the top floor, and could still hear the noise. The band stopped at 9:03pm local time so maybe they had some sort of restriction placed on them.

“I am rating this as poor because I had too many bad experiences for a one nite stay.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

So maybe I am wrong here I don't know. You be the judge. But when I hear Crowne Plaza I think that this is going to be a nice hotel on par with Marriot or Sheraton. I had been looking forward to this hotel and the cool crisp feeling of a slightly higher standard of service and quality. I had even hyped it up to my wife who was ready for a little civilization after bumping around the dirt roads of the Costa Rican countryside.
First of all the entrance was a little bit insane with the main highway right in front of the hotel and the turning for the parking and valet unmarked. Once we parked and got inside the receptioist was very nice. She even recomended a restaurant to eat once we had settled in (turns out that recommenndation was not so great, see my review of Restaurante Nuestra Tierra), guess I should have asked the concierge on that one. And she should not be recomending Tourist trap restaurants.
Our room was large and the bed was o.k. but the smell of mildew was very strong and the carpet near the sliding doors leading to the patio was wet and moldy. Also our view was of and industrial facility next door and thier parking area. Not so romantic.
We ordered more pillows and waited 45 minutes to get them. From room service we ordered coffee and a cheese and fruit platter to tide us over to dinner. When the coffee came it was luke warm at best and the second cup we ordered to share the carafe never arrived.
After our misadventure at the highly recommended restaurant we came back to the room and I decided to head to the in-house Casino. Sweet. At the Casino they have a strange way of selling you a charge card that you refill to make bets so you don't get to see how much you are putting into the machines or on the table, which is fine but there was no one who wanted to volunteer that information to me so I was wandering around trying to figure out why none of the machines wanted to take my money. After awhile I migrated to the blackjack table where I was grinding my life away when I heard a loud crash from another table and I saw a little asian man berating the dealer showering her with F bombs. She took it all in stride and security just stood there watching as the man moved from cursing to slaming his fists on the table to spiking a glass full of liquor in the center of the table sending shards of glass flying. Still he was not ejected from the casino and was allowed to keep playing under the watchful gaze of the inept security. Now don't get me wrong I have played a fair amount of poker in some of the scuzier Los Angeles casinos (read: Hollywood Park) and have seen alot of bad behavior, But when people get outta control they have to be kicked to the curb untill they can get it back together.
Anyway that's my story you decide if that rates a poor for the Crowne Plaza.
