“Little Privacy to be Found Here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed at Alma de Hatillo for one night and we were left with mixed feelings. Our room shared a porch with two other rooms which gave it a kind of motel feel. And our room itself was so small and cramped that we spent next to no time in it.

The open air dining hall was the single nicest dining area we saw on our trip. It's top notch! Surrounded by jungle on three sides, it's the perfect place to bird watch. The property is wonderfully breezy as it's situated on a rise -- so it was never too hot for us here. The yoga platform is also top notch. We didn't partake in any yoga on our stay, but the platform honestly had us wanting to do a class or two. If you're looking for yoga, look no further. The salt water swimming pool is equally lovely.

Unfortunately, there was no self-serve fridge or bar in the dining hall, in fact, there were no drinks or food to be had on the whole property outside of breakfast and dinner (which you must schedule ahead of time). This was a huge disappointment for us as we didn't have a rental car and it was a pricey taxi ride to Dominical just to get a coke or a beer. Bring your own food! On the plus side however, the breakfast we had here was amazing! The homemade jams were fantastic.

Unfortunately, there is a farm situated very close to the property, perhaps right next door. You will hear the sounds of cows all day long, a rooster at dawn, and if you're lucky like we were, the shrill screams of a pig being slaughtered. If you are dog lovers like we are, you won't be afraid of Sabina's slightly intimidating pack of large sized dogs (German Shepherd mix, Chocolate Lab, Pitbull (?) looking mix), however, I can certainly see her pack being a problem for those who have any fear of dogs whatsoever. It appeared that Sabina was good about keeping the dogs locked up and checking with guests before she brought them out.

We found Sabina, the owner, to be on the overbearing side of chatty. When we were using the public spaces she was always on us, wanting to chat. At one point she even pulled up a chair at our table and stayed for an hour when we were trying to relax and do some reading. Some guests might like this sort of close interaction with a property owner, but we didn't appreciate it and would never stay here again based solely on this.

“Great Place to Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

This B&B is a lovely place to stay if you are in the Dominical area. The owner, Sabina, is a wonderfully kind and caring person who loves her work and does everything to make you feel at home. The rooms are gorgeous, the pool lovely and the grounds are beautiful.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that there is a nearby road whose noise kept me up at night, along with the local dogs and roosters who made for a somewhat fitful night sleep.

Other than that, the place is perfect!

“We felt lucky to find this incredible treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We spent the first half of our trip with Sabina, after having spent one night in Manuel Antonio, a bit on the touristy side for our taste, we hit the road south to Dominical, and found Sabina on the way. Having read about her homemade chocolate was enough to tempt us, but upon arriving at the property, it got even better. We were greeted at the gate by a lovely woman who began telling us all about our options for adventure and tranquil peace. She was amazingly kind, even offering tips for us to continue our trip further south after just one night. Waking up the next morning, we decided to stick around for a few days, and explore all the adventure and beaches nearby. No regrets at all, a completely amazing stay, relaxing and active, each day was more perfect than the last. Sabina has a beautiful property and is an exquisite hostess! we will return

“Nice and tranquill”

We stayed at Alma de Hatillo for one night. The room was clean yet on a smaller size for 3 persons. Bed quality was good. There is a nice covered sitting area outside of room and of course, a large swimming pool. Best part of our short stay was the breakfast. Excellent food most of it made by the lovely owner herself. Eating area has several hammocks to relax in.

“Very nice hotel, friendly service, breakfast was super!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011 via mobile

We stayed one night in the way to the south of costa rica and it was really nice. Sabina welcomed us very friendly and spent some time with us talking about costa rica and some experience she had. She was also interested how we spent our time and where we had been in order to collect some useful info for next guests.
As soon as we arrived she explained us where to find a good close beach and where to eat in the evening, because considering that was still low season she was not cooking the dinner. But the following morning she prepared a super breakfast with his home made biological products (mango, coconut, cacao and others).
The hotel is also having a nice swimming pool and a place to do yoga in the morning.
Overall, is really worth to spend there some days and Sabina will be really friendly with you!
