“Scenic hotel lodge next to hiking trails in forest”

Very impressed with La Foresta. Owned and operated by a couple from Houston, this hotel offers superb service, clean rooms, a very warm pool and jacuzzi, and great happy hour specials at the bar. This resort is a 5 min drive from the town of Quepos, so the only place to eat while staying here is at the restaurant. Note that it closes early, at 10pm, and after that, there is no place for food or alcohol. Mini-bars are in rooms but they are pricey. Beds are comfy and although decor appears old, room itself is spotless. Nature trails located next door and offer you two 1-hour hikes through a natural rainforest. Many birds and butterflies to be spotted. Parking is plentiful and WiFi worked well. Nearest beach is 15 min drive away, but pool is open 24 hr. Prices are a little more than other nearby places, but service alone is worth the extra dollars.

“La Foresta is a must-stay”

We stayed at La Foresta for 2 days. They have huge rooms, in individual cabins. Nice log wood cabins. The breakfast was superb, the hiking trails and the nature, birds, flowers, around the hotel, right outside your room are beautiful. There is a butterfly garden, monkeys in the forest in the property and the zip line lands in the property. The people are super-friendly. The girl at the reception was very friendly too, she recommended a nice restaurant for us. This place is a great mix of convenience, good pricing, nature and luxury. They have a great pool and jacuzzi. They are located right in the middle of the reception and the restaurant, so maybe not so much privacy. The restaurant seemed very nice but unfortunately we didn't get to eat there, we had a drink one night. But no complaints, you will enjoy this place. Oh by the way, the cabins you get are suites, a living room, a small kitchen with a dining table and a nice bedroom.

“Beautiful hotel.”

It is surrounded by beautiful green forest. There are many butterflies, flowers, birds etc. The hotel has a it's own mini rain forest and a nature trail. The pool was small but nice and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They have a computer you can use to check your emails and such.
The food at the restaurant tasted good, although the menu itself was limited. We did a package deal where breakfest was included and they definately impressed us with the quality of it. The presentation was excellent.
The rooms themselves are spacious and very clean. Unfortunately, due to the humidity when we first got in the towels and sheets smelled funny. The beds are not comfortable nor the blankets. But we didn't mind because we weren't there to sleep all day!

Overall we had a really great experience! Just load up on the bug spray and sun block on your trip. These mosquitoes hurt =X

Also it's about a $12 cab ride to Manuel Antonio beach. So it's not close enough to walk. They do offer free shuttles 4 times a day that drop you off and pick you up. So it was convenient enough!

Oh and another thing, they had a refrigerator and coffee maker but no phone or clock in the room!

“Nice hotel, friendly staff, just too far from the beach”

We stayed for one night and thought the location was pretty off. We were away from the beach area and the night life around the Manual Antonio town. The staff were helpful and rooms were decent.

“Rude, crude and unreasonable”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2010

Supposedly no one spoke any English. Charged me for 2 night upgrade, but only asked for one because 10 hour bus ride made me ill. Several at front desk were Rude, crude and abusively unreasonable next 0700 morning when I wanted to return to prepaid tour double room the next day. Manager avoided me, requiring me to return to the front desk HOURLY to discuss refund, but turned out, the manager was "busy elsewhere". Single room was dusty, smelled moldy, lightbulbs burned out and coffee machine available but no coffee. No, is my advice

As the new owners of La Foresta Nature Resort (formerly Rancho Casa Grande), we would like to note this recent negative review is for a stay for February 2009. We purchased the hotel in December 2009 and have made significant improvements to our 4 star hotel. Besides a remodeled bar and restaurant, beautiful landscaping, butterfly garden and nature trail improvements, I can personally attest to the fact that all reception and restaurant staff speak English and they are eager to please every guest. Managers are available throughout the day to assist you and can be reached late at night if needed. If you come to the Manuel Antonio area, be sure to go on the highly acclaimed Titi Canopy Tour (which is on the hotel property). Once the tour is over, feel free to walk our grounds and see the improvements. We are proud of them!
