A group of 8 of us stayed at the Blue Banyan Jan 5-9 2012. Our group stayed in both the cabins as well as the larger and newer 3 story building. Unlike the reviewer 'Kallins' we had a lovely stay in the 3 story building. It was incredibly clean, well furnished, and an excellent place for a family. Jim and Barb told us about the negative TripAdvisor review and the complaints from the previous guests; thankfully our group had a problem free stay. We would recommend staying in the 3 story building, especially if you're a larger group and want some living room and kitchen space (brought pizza back, played board games, and drank beer in the living room).
The cabins were nice and had all the basic amenities (AC, good beds, very nice spacious hot shower). They were a very good value at ~$120. Yes, you might find a bug or ant here and there, but hey, this is Costa Rica!
Breakfast was excellent! Banana pancakes were awesome! Hosts (Jim, Barb, and Chip) were very friendly and helpful. They had plenty of recommendations for us. (Ask about the deserted beach at El Rey if you're up for some adventure).
Great place for birdwatching. We had a few birders in our group, and they had a great time roaming the grounds. Also get a tour of the monkey rehab facility they have down the road. Pia and Pablo the resident vets for the facility, showed us the monkeys they are taking care of - they were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Overall great peaceful and secluded place. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
