My boyfriend and I just returned from 8 days at Villa Kristina. It was our first time to Costa Rica. We were more than happy with our stay. The apartment we stayed in was clean and comfortable. We went during a rather rainy portion of the season so having a full apartment was great (we didn't want to kill each other once!)
Kristina went above and beyond to set up cabs and tours for us (neither of us speak much Spanish so she was able to negotiate lower prices on tours, etc which was nice!) She also dried our laundry for us and made the bed/gave us fresh towels every day.
I'd suggest speaking with her and letting her know when you're going to arrive. We were "taken" our first day there as the cab driver totally overcharged us. Being unfamiliar with the trip, we didn't realize it until we mentioned it to Kristina. She said that she'd be more than happy to arrange a ride from town to the Villa. She also very nicely asked her helper to take us to the beach at Playa La Macha. It was a bit of a trek but totally worth it.
Two small notes: a) the villa is a secluded. We LOVED this, however, it did mean that coming back at night meant we needed to take a cab as the walk is a bit dark. This doesn't cost more than $3-5 USD per trip, so it wasn't a problem for us - just a heads-up to be ready for it. (also, we loved that it was secluded - it felt much more comfortable anyway, so it's totally not a negative!).
b) the shower does not get very warm. Again, this is NOT a negative (it's kind of nice to have a cooler shower when it's hot out!) but just something to note.
All in all, we highly highly recommend staying at Villa Kristina. It's well worth the money and you'll truly enjoy your entire experience. We're planning on returning to Villa Kristina with a group for the other, larger apartment. Thanks for a great stay!
