This hotel has obviously gone downhill since some of the reviews were written.
The room we had was damp & ceilings full of black mold. The "suicide shower" did not work and the a/c worked, but only just, and was very noisy (like having a go-kart in the room.
One light not working and faucet coming out of the sink.
Worst of all, Beds full of bed bugs or some other form of biting insects. Also cockroaches sharing room with us.
Management admitted "I never go into the rooms".
Service: Chambermaid very pleasant, as was reception employee.
Location great, right on waterfront and close to main street.
Bar/Restaurant: (Which is leased out) Very friendly staff, excellent food, in fact the best we found in Puerto Jimenez, and quite reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Palms for a night before going to Corcovado and ended up staying for 3 nights more after our return. The people are very friendly and the prices are a great value for what you get (A/C and hot water plus real mattresses- what a treat after three days of hiking!) The outside isn't very impressive, but the rooms were just renovated - new paint, etc. Also, being on the water and in the town as well made getting to our tours very easy - no waiting for transports - just hop on a boat or into a taxi and you're there.. Thank you to The Palms for a most enjoyable stay!

The people working at the hotel were very nice and caring.. Some of the rooms are better than others but the people working there will take care of you. Also, they will help you get around Costa Rica and will set you up with people who will give you a real adventure if you are looking for one.
