I had an incredibly restful and rejuvenating week at Anamaya. I came for a quiet time away, to de-stress and disconnect and it was GREAT for that! Some of the folks were more active and signed up for surfing/hiking, which I did not do. The daily yoga and ample chilling by the pool or in the gorgeous main house was just fine by me. There are a few things to keep in mind, though, as this is NOT your typical all-inclusive resort:
- Chef Jeff's food is very healthy and delicious, but can be somewhat repetitive for people used to not having any dietary restraints. Dairy and meat are minimal, and the vegetables are mostly native to the area. There are no meals or snacks aside from designated meal or snack times. Also, despite what the website says, most of it does NOT come from the farm. We had many people with farms back home in the group, and they did not think the farm was capable of producing the amount of food needed for the resort. The alcohol prices are what you might pay in most big cities.
- This is NOT an intense yoga retreat! Rather, it is a vacation where you have the option of doing yoga and doing as much or as little as you want. - You can sign up for surf lessons/spa treatments/other activities. It is a small operation, so sometimes mistakes are possible. This is not a place where you go if you never want to see or interact with the staff. They are very nice, but they run a tight ship and might not be able to accommodate people's requests.
- The town as at the bottom of a steep hill. Be ready to either sweat buckets getting there and back, or grab a taxi. It's not super easy to get to, and neither is the beach.
Overall, this was a great experience with a chill group of people who were there expressly to avoid commercial resorts, but still enjoy their vacations. I had a great time there and would totally recommend it to anyone to recharge their batteries!More
