“What a suprise at the end of a bumpy road”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This property belongs somewhere else. It sits high up in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The town is accessed by dirt road. The drive, while bumpy, is well worth it. Views along the way of the Nicola bay are beautiful. Situated in the small town of Monteverde this property is truly a diamond in the rough. The amenities are first class and the restaurant serves some excellent meals. Try the seared ahi tuna - it is excellent. The waitstaff are extremely friendly and provide superb service. Our room with a canopy level balcony afforded lovely views of the flora and the occasional rare bird. The surrounding gardens provide a nice quiet walk among the beautiful flowers. The King sized bed was very comfortable and the room nicely appointed.

Room Tip: Choose a canopy level room with balcony

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We are here right now and love it. So quaint and clean. The staff is the best all around everyone is so nice. Guides are knowledgeable and make it fun would come back in a heartbeat even with the rainy tour of the rainforest and I mean rain. Beautiful. The night tour was incredible frogs agoutis birds and tarantula.

Room Tip: Balcony room is better for view

“Loved This Place”

Unfortunately we spent only one night here. Placed in room 201, which had a wonderful balcony view. The room was immaculate and offered all the amenities of a more modern type hotel (lots of outlets, shower cap, etc) . At night we slept with the sliders open (screened so no bugs could get in) The price was not cheap (breakfast wasn't included), but was worth it just for the wonderful employees and esp the bartender at night. Oh, I was given coffee in the morning at no charge and it was soooo good.

Because we arrived around 3:30 pm and was checking out the next morning, didn't really get to take advantage of what the lodge had to offer. A big plus was being able to walk in Monteverde at night (very short walk). My husband and I were tired and lazy on the way back, so just cabbed it.

I read a review where someone mentioned the bed wasn't comfortable. I found it fine and I have back issues.

Loved Monteverde Lodge and would return without hesitation.

“A Quiet Retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This hotel is about a ten minute walk from downtown Santa Elena......and thankfully so as the town is full of tourist busses, noise and congestion. We stayed for two nights in a balcony room - highly recommended because it affords a great view of the treetops and a plethora of birds etc. The beds were comfortable and the room spotless. The rooms are a little dated and dark but otherwise A1. The food was great in a dinning room overlooking the hotel's garden. The property is comprised of several acres, some of which are landscaped and others left in their natural state which makes for a fantastic hike down to a stream. This was expecially wonderful on a guided night walk. We saw more wildlife at night than in our two days trecking around the cloud forest. The Monteverde Lodge is a lovely oasis. And, as a side note, if you're going to the cloud forest, I'd recommend Santa Elena as it's much less crowded.

Room Tip: Request a balcony room

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We had a wonderful 2 nights here. Great grounds, nice rooms, clean bathroom (we were in a handicapped accessible room so bathroom was huge), beds not great. Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was off menu, not buffet. They have pool, but we did not use it.
