My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon at the Gaia Hotel and Reserve. Everything about our experience on the property was amazing. The rooms were comfortable and modern. The service was incredible from all of the staff. The restaurant was the best we went to in the area, with delicious meals and very nice wines. Sandy, the person I'm assuming in charge of travel never responded to our last email, but this was only a small hiccup in their otherwise great service.

I wish to thank our recent guest who very kindly pointed out what what Gaia is all about.....service. We strive to anticipate the needs of our guests by appointing a personal concierge to each one who is dedicated and checks in with them at least twice per day.
And thank you for your praises on our restaurant. We do consider ourselves the very best in the area in terms of quality, selection and service.
There was in fact a response to your e-mail request that was left at the front desk that we only discovered was not delivered to you after you checked out. For this we apologize as this certainly should not have happened.
Thank you again for using this Tripadvisor forum and sharing your wonderful experience.

My husband and I recently returned from a five night stay at the Gaia Hotel. Everything about our stay was perfect!

We stayed in one of their Suites. What I loved most about it was that after a long day we were able to sleep great. The bed was comfy and the room was quiet and totally dark. The living area had big windows all around to take in the beautiful views and the private patio was a great place to start the day with a cup of coffee while listening to the birds sing.

The three level infinity pool was awesome. Most days we would get a couple of tropical drinks from the pool bar then swim over to the edge and soak up the views. Often times there were only a few other people there, we felt like we had it all to ourselves.

Luna Bar and Restaurant had great food and drinks. It's a great place to watch the sun set, then stay for dinner. Also, the breakfast is great! I loved having it delivered to our room most mornings. There is nothing better than sitting in your pj's eating breakfast while looking out to distant ocean views.

The staff went above and beyond; anything you needed they took care of it. One morning I went on a guided tour of the Nature Reserve with their naturalist. He was great! I even booked him for a private tour the next day of Manuel Antonio Park.

My main goal for this trip was to relax and see wildlife. I went to the park and also took a mangrove boat tour. However, the best wildlife sighting came from the Gaia hot tub. I was in there alone when I spotted about three feet away from me a squirrel monkey with a baby on her back. It was so awesome to see this so close up. What followed was a half hour "show " of about 20 monkeys. It was so much fun to watch them run across the pool ledge and jump through the trees.

Thank you Gaia- our trip was wonderful!

And on behalf of our entire staff, we thank you for coming to Gaia and allowing us to share with you and your husband the fun and excitement that seems to gush from all corners of the Gaia resort. You have truly captured what coming to Gaia is all about and we are so happy we fulfilled your needs to relax and see the abundant wildlife on our property. Relaxing in a hot tub watching the monkeys play in the trees......well, that does say it all, indeed!
Thank you for using this Tripadvisor forum......it truly means a lot to us.

Between all our zip lining and repelling in Arenal, and the hardcore hiking in Osa, we scheduled 3 nights of indulgence at the Gaia, and the Gaia does not disappoint. Immaculately maintained and poised on a hilltop with views forever, the staff seems to be trained to read your mind and know what you need before you do. From the personal concierge you meet upon arrival, to the restaurant staff, to the front desk and spa and pool, it just always feel like you are a "regular" at the hotel and like everyone is actually really happy you are there.

Our room was a suite overlooking the ocean with every amenity possible inside it and some serious "turn down" service each night that really was a second thorough housekeeping visit. Beds were comfy, bathroom enormous, sitting areas comfortable, little balcony off the living room was private, and lots of treats to be found. The only slightly "off" aspect of the room was the sliding door closet arrangement where the doors had to be closed in a precise order sort of or the light inside wouldn't go off. There was also surprisingly little hanging space in the enormous wall-legnth closet--tons of drawers and shelves, though. Oh--a very good, real breakfast is included and if you prefer to eat it in your room, room service is no extra charge for breakfast.

The pool is spectacular place to loll about and it was pretty easy to find a private nook of deck space. The tuna wraps are amazing and you can order and eat them under an awning at the swim up bar as you gaze out over the Manuel Antonio to the sea.

5:00 snacks and cocktails to watch sunset on the top floor restaurant was a great way to meet other guests and the owners and their friends. And chatting with other guests and comparing time spent in CR was a lot of fun.

The "reserve" is really a wildly neglected forest and former garden that the owners inherited and are working hard to enhance. They've hired a new naturalist who is making steady progress and who offers wonderful walks through the trails while teaching you about the habitat, the animals (sloths, monkeys, butterflies among others), and conservation. We also hiked the trails on our own and loved spotting wildlife on our own.

The hotel offers free rides just about anywhere during the day, so the park and the beach are easy to get to (6km away) and to be picked up from. Taxis are fairly inexpensive at night if you want to go out. But be sure to have at least one meal at the excellent hotel restaurant.

Our "couples massage" at the spa was great. Sign up when you check in and save 25%--it was really quite reasonable.

Finally, while we encountered more gay people here than anywhere else during our CR travels (we're a gay couple) which was wonderful, but realize that everyone--gay or straight or whatever--just mixed so comfortably and easily in the laid back, indulgent environment the owners have created here.

Room tip: Higher is better for views. All are good tho.

Our recent guests from NYC truly understood what Gaia is all about and have shared effortlessly the magic we have created here. They captured the relaxation, privacy, intimacy, adventure and overall the exact reason they came to Costa Rica and ultimately found Gaia.
Thank you for sharing here on Tripadvisor your wonderful experience and we certainly welcome you back allowing us to spoil you once again here in our slice of Paradise!

I have just come back from my honeymoon at the Gaia hotel and I have nothing but praise for it.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They always remembered our names and nothing was too much trouble for them. They even got me some paracetamol when I wasn't feeling well.

We were staying in the deluxe suite and when we arrived, one of the owners (Thomas) came out to greet us, then one of the staff drove us in a golf buggy up to the hotel. Our personal concierge showed us around the site and then got us a bottle of wine and a fruit platter (with enough fruit for about 5 people on it!) as a congratulations gift for our recent wedding.

The deluxe suites are really cool - the best bit being the roof terrace with four poster sunbed looking out onto the trees and the Pacific ocean.

Breakfasts were amazing - I swear I must have put on about a stone! And the hotel had a special offer on food - pay $15 and get a 3 course lunch and dinner (with free cocktail) which we paid for and I was really glad we did. It was a total bargain as a main course would set you back $15 at least in the restaurant. The restaurant itself had a spectacular view. There is live music every night (not too loud, just as background music) and all the waiters are lovely. We drank the tap water and had no problems at all.

There is a spa at the hotel, which is about the same as London prices, but we enjoyed a very relaxing massage together, and we had a complementary massage (30 mins) as part of the room price.

The pools are small, so not really for swimming, more for cooling down (the weather was boiling!) and there is a pool bar, which is always a good idea on holiday.

We went down to the beach one day and it was pretty, but the tide was out and the water was very rough, so we left at lunchtime. But the hotel provides a free shuttle service to the beach which is really useful.

One thing I will say about the hotel (and Costa Rica in general) is when you are budgeting your trip, make sure to put a fair whack in for tips and you will feel the need to tip everyone!!

All in all, a magical stay and I will never forget sipping cold white wine on our roof terrace while watching the sunset.
