I want to start out by saying that despite the issues described below, I still find this Italian-run hotel charming and would recommend it.
Didi's is located right on the main road to Manual Antonio though it is closer to Quepos. Our large room faced the road hence there was road noise that really did not bother us. The little balcony allowed us to do some wildlife watching right from the room - we saw birds and butterflies of course, but also an iguna about 15 feet away on the hotel's covered roof and troups of monkeys - both white-face and squirrel on the roof of a house across the road (need binoculars). The breakfast at Didi's was good consisting of a variety of fruit, juice, coffee, toast and delicious homemade pastries. Apparently, they serve dinner too but we did not try it.
Some issues we encountered: 1) dead ant-covered cockroach on bathroom floor upon arrival, 2) ants in general, 3) broken hot water fuse (fixed immediately), 4) squeaky beds and floors, 5) air conditioning that needs some work and 6) general cleanliness.
Positive things about the hotel: 1) Ezio the owner- when we inquired about a nearby restaurant, he immeidately rushed us to his car, mumbled something about we must go fast or we would miss the sunset, and drove us up the dirt road hill to the restaurant. As a result, we saw the sunset, enjoyed a wonderful meal and refreshing Sangria; 2) free beach towels; 3) generosity and helpfulness of Didi and Ezio - they gave us a bottle of water at no charge; 4) kick-back b&b atmosphere that cannot be found in larger hotels; 5) breakfast; and 6) wildlife watching, which was better than inside the park.
