1st time in costa rica travelling 2 families incl 2 kids+4 adults and this was our first stop after San Jose. Stayed from dec 26-30. We stayed in Section D rooms 3 and 4. This building is down the hill from reception so it's extra secluded but it is just across the busy beach road from one of the pools which was nice. Everything is crazy hilly at this property and in Man An. in general. We saw lots of wildlife from spider monkeys, iguana's, gecko's, to a huge variety of birds including toucan's in the trees right off the balcony. Amazing views of the hillside and beach which is really the best feature.
Both good sized rooms had 2 double beds, a good size fridge/freezer, a hotplate, coffee maker and variety of plates/cutlery/glassware so we stocked up with basics for breakfasts and snacks. One of the rooms experienced no hot water one night and the power went out for about an hour one day but other than that everything worked fine. This is not a luxury resort but if you want a decent place to stay (it's got a cottage feel) you'll be fine. The bedding suited us - I didn't come to CR wanting a 5* resort or AI experience. I'm not sure about rooms in the main buildings which looked considerably smaller and likely noisier but as others have said you have the advantage of being closer to some amenities.
We ate at the Anaconda for dinner one night which was good, but the kids enjoyed El Wagon and La Cantina up the hill a bit better as there were more kid-friendly items on the menu (few restaurants in CR have kids menu's we found).
We had no problems with rude or inattentive staff. The cleaning staff had to make a special trip with a motorbike or pickup truck to our building and a few times they came too early for us!
You could walk the 15-20 min. to the beach if you are fit - the walk back up the hill is fairly strenuous though and it's a busy road with virtually no shoulders in some spots so if you have young children watch them! Better to drive, take a taxi or the bus (we had a driver/guide our whole time in CR which was great).
We would stay here again, although Man Antonio was pretty hectic around Christmas and everything was a little too busy for our liking here compared to other parts of CR we visited.
Room Tip: Pick buildings D or E if you want great views of the beach and more privacy. Make sure you are on t...
