this hotel was described in the holiday brochure as basic. I have no idea why, it was 'rustic'. The chalets were good and clean,the bar had a good choice of free drinks and cocktails,the food was very good and plenty of it, the coffee was the best of my 3 week stay. The hotel is by a river,with plenty of wildlife,and good jungle walks. Iguanas walk around the grounds, and very pretty frogs live in the hotel pond with the carp.I really enjoyed the 4 days that I stayed here

This property is beautiful and has trails however, the rooms were around $130/night for a room with 2 beds (during holiday season). The room was unclean! I expect to see bugs, etc. since we were in the middle of the forest but I didn't expect to see the stuff I saw after paying what we did. The walls are also very thin...we heard our neighbors day and night with the TV and talking. Also, we paid for the lunch buffet the first day there, which was expensive, but not worth it. I would recommend getting out and going to Tarcoles or Jaco! The property is what kept this rating from going below average.

If your travels take you to this part of the world, Hotel Villa Lapas offers an adquate alternative for visiting Carara National Park and for taking boat rides on the local river. Resident scarlet mccaws and other birds. Spacious grounds. Modest but truly adequate spot for the local bird watcher and others.

This is a very comfortable hotel in an idyllic setting. Lovely grounds with a river running through with lots of wildlife. I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms are spacious and my shower worked extremely well. The food was also very good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica.
